I was at Kingsbarns today , couldnt get over how good a spectator course it was , as long as you are fit to hike on the dunes , you get some wonderful vantage points . Suits a small scale tournament like the Dunhill .
Rich I was also surprised the course wasnt as fast and firm as the links courses I have played this summer . But Carnoustie was worse , I checked out practise day there yesterday and the fairways are electric green .
One enjoyable moment at Carnoustie yesterday was at the 6th tee , the hole being officially renamed "Hogans Alley" , and all players had to tee up with a persimmon wood and a 1.62 ball for a long drive comp. To make it interesting the wind got up and right into the face .
I missed Arjun Atwell hitting 251 yards , that had been early and before the wind got up . I did see Adam Scott hit it 231 yards and snigger at how far it went . Some had forgotten how to hit a persimmon and just stared at how small it was . Ian Woosnam scuttled his 50 yards , laughter all round , he then demands another 3 balls nailing each one up Hogans Alley . Great Fun for half a dozen spectators .
Had my camera with me both days , will try and post if anybody wants to see some .
