Armchair (AAC) 2015/2016 IV (9 Holes)
« on: December 15, 2015, 03:34:18 PM »
We have a Site provided by Adrian Stiff.  Please PM me and I'll be happy to email you the photo so you can print the photo out and or enlarge it for better viewing of the contour lines.  Lets shoot for a par 33.  The wind is out of the SW.  Submissions are due on Jan 15th.

In light of getting tired of twitter like back and forth threads.  Does any Archies want to supply a topo and aerial and have us Amateurs get to work?  Maybe we could learn more about the craft we love by doing?  Give us by Jan 1st or 15th and have X amount of Archies grade us...  I figure a 9 hole routing would be baby steps.  Thoughts?
I have a fairly difficult 9 hole topo it is on about 33 acres. Quite hard to get a great solution, impossible to get a par 36 (or I think it is).
A combination of whats good for golf and good for turf.

Considering I've been seeming sketching nothing but 9 holers recently, a 9 hole AAC sound fantastic. Even if it doesn't happen I'd still love to see this 33 acre topo.

Ben and Adrian,

Let's do this!  I reached out to a couple archies to judge.  A par 36 on 33 acres seems near impossible.  Maybe par 30-33 would be better?

Or you could do what a local course here in Utah did.  They have a 9 holer that's a par 36 on the card, with a total yardage of ~3200.

But when you play the course, all the yardages are woefully off.  For example, it lists a 495 yard par 5, but only plays about 410.  Another hole is listed at 320 yards, but is only 250 tops!!

When you can't make it, just fake it!!  ;D

Par 33 on 33 acres would be more appropriate don't you think Ben? ;)

Matthew, Ben, and others, I've uploaded Adrian's site with topo lines.  I can email you it so you can adjust the size.  Does this work for everyone interested?

I'd be interested in taking a crack at it. I think the 332 idea sounds good

I am interested in taking a crack at this as well. Do you have an image of just the topo lines by chance?

Guys,

I messaged you all that posted.  Anyone else interested PM me and I'll email you the photo so you can blow up the image and or print it out on larger paper.  You will be able to see the contour lines better.

Ben & Adrian,

Thanks for getting this off the ground and volunteering a unique site. A little research shows some great views! Shall we post a few of those for context?

Yes that would be good.

P.S. Is the current routing Adrian's current solution?  The red numbers on the map I'm assuming are the elevations in Meters?  Given the topo lines are offset on .5 M?

Thanks,

Two more questions...

The starter shack and parking lot are "set"?

The shrubs and trees must stay?

Kalen,

I leave Adrian to make that executive decision.  I'm just the doorman.

Good deal.  The starting point isn't an issue, but the shrubbery could potentially be one...

Some site context:

1. West end of the property viewed from Nore Road.

2. Same position as picture 1 but looking northeast into the middle of the property

3. View from Nore Road looking northwest from the eastern part of the property (first green of existing routing in the foreground)

4. The Windmill Inn - the land for golf is beyond the inn from this viewpoint.

I'm likely in over my head here, so please forgive my ignorance, but are we to ignore the routing on the emailed image and come up with an alternate routing? Is that what we're doing?

Dan,

    Ha, I don't think so.

Kalen,

I dislike brush/trees so I'll be whacking them fine or no fine.

Daryn,

  thanks for the photos
