2015 PHOTOS OF THE YEAR THREAD (WINNERS ANNOUNCED)
« on: December 10, 2015, 02:02:16 PM »
Let's do this.

Welcome to the 2015 Photos of the Year Contest.

This year, we're going to do things a little different:

1.  Two submissions per contestant, one for each of the categories noted in item 4 below (for posts with more, unless you designate your entries we're going to take the first two photos).  Please don't use this thread to unload your Photobucket Library;

2.  Photos have to have been taken in 2015 (with the caveat that any photos from 2014 that were taken after last year's contest ended are admissible);

3.  Submission period will run until December 26th (photo must be posted, not linked);

4.  Following the submission period, the Committee will choose five photos as the finalists (to be posted on the 27th), in each of two divisions, (A) one for golf course related photos, and (B) one for the people and traditions of the game;

5.  Voting on the finalists will be open to all with one vote per participant (votes can be submitted by PM or by post on this thread any time between the 27th and the 31st);

6.  The winners will be announced on January 1st; and

7.  You're allowed to nominate a picture taken by someone else, and that picture is eligible for the contest and does not count as the photographer's submission.  It does count as one of your submissions.  Any prize would go to the actual photo taker, not the submitter.

As always, these rules are subject to change at any time due to the whim of the Chairman.

This year's committee is comprised of the Chairman and last year's winner, if they choose to participate.

Here's a link to last years contest for anyone feeling a bit nostalgic:

B) Photo taken during the 111th GAP Open Championship held this year at the Wissahickon Course at the Philadelphia Cricket Club...I had to write individual hole by hole scores for 78 players playing over 36 holes of stroke play...

Division A Submission:

No. 16, "Short," at Fishers Island, as seen from the teeing ground (October 17, 2015).

Division B Submission:

PGA Professional Matt Dobyns is greeted by his family amid a swarm of media members behind the Philadelphia Cricket Club's Wissahickon's 18th green moments after winning his second PGA Professional Championship (July 1, 2015).

And not for submission, just for grins, one of my egotistical favorites (there is a lot of history in those trophies): https://s3.amazonaws.com/PGAmagAmbassador/15annualtrophiesformal-crop.jpg

Didn't take too many photos this year, but I will remember both of these fondly:

From the 8th tee at Midland Hills CC (Roseville, Minnesota), the alleged "Cape" hole. Not a great "architecture" picture, but just a pretty picture of a lovely golf course on a calm, late-fall afternoon (Nov.2) in Minnesota:

On June 27, after our cruel loss on the last hole of the 5th Major shootout, my partner Dan Moore and I played some more golf ... but cut it short as sunset neared, so that I could drive around the Red Course at Dismal River as Dan did some serious architecture photography. You might see some of it later in this thread. I love this view of the photographer at work:

Berkleigh Golf Club has turned into my favorite public track here in the Lehigh Valley.  I've tried to frequent the course after work when I don't have a chance to play my home club.
From the 15th tee.  mid length par 3 with a lot of bail out space.

My son on the longish par 4 -13th looking to the heavens for his first birdie......   which has yet to arrive.  But sharing golf with him has been the best and I have found a new appreciation for the game through teaching him.

Though this is technically of a golf course (Ballyneal), it's probably better aligned with the second category. What a memorable place.

I am embarrassed to admit that I only took two photos this year and what's worse is that they were of my home course.  So literally, here goes nothing.  A 270 yard par 4, up hill, into a tightly guarded green complex.

Gentlemen - I will admit my ignorance on posting photos.  I have looked at the various suggestions from 2009-2012.  I am currently storing my photos in the Amazon Cloud since I'm a prime member there.
I do have one photo to submit - any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks much, gents - you all do terrific work. And over and over, with each photo, all I kept thinking was "place".

The voting on this is going to be very tough.
