Best 3 Hole Stretch | Par 3, 4 & 5
« on: October 26, 2015, 04:03:46 PM »
I was discussing Holston Hills with a fellow GCA-er and mentioned I thought stretch of 6, 7 and 8 was one of the best 3-hole stretches that included a hole of each par type.   I came up with a few others that I've played...so what is the best 3-hole stretch with a par 3, par 4 and par 5?

A few of my candidates I've played:

TPC Sawgrass 16, 17, 18 - obviously one of the most famous
Holston Hills 6, 7, 8 - fantastic variety, really cool shots
Crystal Downs 7, 8, 9 - 7 and 8 are all-world, 9 is decent but not up to the caliber of the 7 and 8
Whistling Straits - 10, 11, 12 - maybe the best par 5 and par 3 on the course, I'm not completely sold on 10 though
Cape Kidnappers - 13, 14, 15 - off the charts amazing in the views category, golf is ridiculous too
Kingsley Club - 1, 2, 3  - awesome trio right out of the gate
Streamsong Red - 7, 8, 9 - perhaps the best par 5 on property, along with a great short 3 and 4

Pebble Beach 6, 7, and 8. What do I win for being the first person to post the correct answer?

Also, a dark horse: Blackwolf Run Meadow-Valleys, 14, 15, and 16.

Anything beating 4,5 and 6 at Royal Melbourne is pretty good. 14-16 at Kingston Heath too.

I hate to be a homer, but the Grande Champione has to be 10, 11 and 12 at Dornoch (and I have played both Dornoch and Pebble Beach more times--in both cases over 5 decades--than most of the people on this board).

I'm going with what Mike said: Royal Melbourne (West), 4-6. In this country, 11-13 (or 12-14) at Augusta National aren't too shabby.

The 16th, 17th and 18th at Carnoustie used to provide a par 3-4-5 finish. 'Fun' with persimmon, steel and balata.

Cuscowilla does present a fine set of holes at 2, 3 and 4 but I would also nominate them for the most time consuming to play three holes in golf.

Hard to get much better than 16, 17, & 18 at Sand Hills.

181 holes at Ballyneal on June, 19th, 2017. What a day and why I love golf - http://www.hundredholehike.com/blogs/181-little-help-my-friends

Pacific Dunes has three sets. (11,12 and 13), (14, 15 and 16) or (16, 17 and 18).

I'd guess most good courses have such stretches of holes.
