The ridiculous thing is I'm watching this and just thinking how good the natural undulations are!
In the places where golf cuts through pretension and elitism, it thrives and will continue to thrive because the simple virtues of the game and its attendant culture are allowed to be most apparent. - Tim Gavrich

Was the hole located on a "temporary green?"

Had to laugh at "Signiture Hole"!

Can hear the advertising now: "Golf Digest called it the No. 1 course on Fair Isle!"

(Got a press release the other day claiming that Golf Digest had ranked Superior National the best golf course in Minnesota. When one of our sportswriters challenged the claim, in an email, the release-sender -- declining the opportunity to admit a mistake -- sent evidence that Golf Digest had called it Minnesota's best muni in 2009. The next day, I heard a radio commercial for Giants Ridge which claimed that Golf Digest annually ranks the two Giants Ridge courses, The Legend and The Quarry, as the best courses in Minnesota. Haven't asked for clarification....)

Not the easiest place to get to but definitely one which lets you be part of a golfing elite. I bet none complains about the greens stimping at 2' there ;D

Is it just me or does the golfer look a bit like an older, somewhat heavier (though it may just be the clothes), bearded Matt Bosela?

Somebody could have stuck a few flags in the ground a few blocks from the home where I grew up, on the North Shore of Lake Superior, and we'd have had conditions like that five months of the year. But nobody was that insane.

The Controversial Guide would give it points for walk-ability.

The faux light house seems out of place, the architect obviously trying (too hard) to give the course instant history and a sense of place.

:)  Oh yeah, I forgot about Turnberry.

So then: "It's one of the 2 greatest lighthouses in the entire world, and I own both of them! And what people don't understand is that I'm doing for golf what Christopher Columbus did for America -- I'm bringing it to a whole new level!"

Dan,

Seems like the Brauer edition of clients behaving badly.....FYI, front nine of Sup Nat opened a few weeks ago, and that press release is part of their media barrage. What's funny is I sent them a link to a magazine this year calling it one of the worlds ten most beautiful courses, so they had some other ammo.  I will talk to them about it.  When re-opening a new course, dredging up past rankings doesn't seem like a marketing winner.  For now, nine holes (River nine) is worthy of some praise, IMHO.

Working on Canyon this year.  Have already bulldozed out the two level fairway on one, canted the third fw (cape hole) to the tee for some receptivity and started clearing on the other holes.  the golf course should match the views now.

Was there yesterday, and in MSP this morning.  Should have called!  Weird weather, with the dreaded 40-40 combo (temp, wind speed) early AM and perfect fall day by afternoon.

Not impressed at all (sic). What kind of course is this? It's not 7,000+ yds, the greens don't look like they run at 12+ on the stimp, there's no freshwater irrigation system and there don't seem to be any carts. Jeez, what is the game coming too?
