Just a bump here as I had the fortunate chance to play MPCC Dunes course in the beginning of October when they started to let on average run of mill guests. I have to admit that I really liked it a lot. There are a couple holes I recognized but the renovation I would have to say is a huge success compared to what I can remember of the course from my first visit in 2010.
I'd say the start is moderate, the 3rd hole seems improved and from 4 on out to the beach it really feels like a different course. I would note that after one play I was hardly the expert on remembering the routing in great detail, especially since it was a forest course and a lot of the holes felt similar. Taking out thousands of trees helps, bringing back the native sandy areas definitely helps a lot and as mentioned above 4 kind of played like a reverse Redan but it was quite long 220 yds+ (without checking a scorecard0 and fun to watch the ball funnel down around the corner. 5 a drivable par 3 which was fun, probably a 3 wood for above average hitters as two of us hit over the green albeit one with a lucky bounce out of trouble. There is quite a lot of waste area though most of it is not really in play I'd say unless you get wild. The greens are far more interesting than I remember and the course is in equally perfect condition.
I'd say a huge success and not your average Fazio reno in fact if you didn't know it in advance I'd venture to say there is no way you could guess it would receive that stamp.
I know this is quite a statement but I really think it's my #2 on the Peninsula now.
