Courses improved by legislation
« on: August 07, 2015, 02:04:54 PM »
As I'm heading to Denver in a few months, I was staking out golf courses to visit while in the area. From looking at photos, it strikes me that Fossil Trace probably is a much better course today than it was prior to Colorado legalizing marijuana.

With all the promises starting to be made by potential presidential candidates, it's worth asking: What golf courses have been improved by legislation?

Most golf courses in the U.S. would have benefitted from the events of December 5, 1933.

I'm thinking a few courses are probably better thanks to water restrictions. There may be others that have been inadvertently improved by a street that got routed right through their worst hole, forcing them to build a better one elsewhere. Still others may have been improved by something as simple as a local noise ordinance.

And seriously, how does one look at photos of Fossil Trace and not think "Hmm, maybe Engh had a feeling Amendment 64 was coming"? That chimney in the middle of the first fairway looks pretty far out, man.

Colorado has made 64 amendments to their state constitution? My inner Ron Swanson is churning at the thought of that.

I played Fossil Trace once and only once.

15-foot high rock croppings in the middle of a fairway? Check.

Oakmont because of the PA Turnpike?

Juniper (OR) was just a mediocre course along the road from Redmond to Prineville. Leased land from the airport. Lease ended and they were given/leased new land on the south edge of town. Far, far better course than the previous one wasTheir lease fr

Every course by the repeal of prohibition ;)

I'm always intrigued by golf courses that serve as the "home" course for high school golf teams -- does Golden HS use FTrace as their home course? That's a pretty good local advantage worth at least a stroke or two per nine, no?
