True Links book - Is there an error in the picture label
« on: July 29, 2015, 06:17:12 AM »
True Links book - http://www.amazon.com/True-Links-Malcolm-Campbell/dp/1579653952/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8

I was looking through this book the other day and notice that on page 172/173 or 174 there are a couple of pictues of Deal. One is correctly labeled as the 4th but the second picture is labeled as the 14th and i am certain the its the 3rd. Has anbody else noticed this?

Their real error lies in limiting the definition of "links".

Yours is a tired argument.  The writers didn't define or invent the term "links", they merely used a very old definition and offered an exhausting number of examples.

Any new courses which may play like links should come up with their own unique marketing terms rather than trying to redefine established terms in the hopes of grabbing free limelight.

Marketing term?

I've never stepped foot on linksland, yet I play links golf. Argue that.

The book calls it "true", like "real" it's a tired marketing term.

I'm not sure what the side story is here but they didn't restrict the definition enough, certainly not in its applicable. There are courses in there which REALLY stretch the definition.
In the places where golf cuts through pretension and elitism, it thrives and will continue to thrive because the simple virtues of the game and its attendant culture are allowed to be most apparent. - Tim Gavrich
