. . . I was not aware that Trevino did any design work

He did one of the three courses at Geneva National in Wisconsin. There is also a Palmer there, and a Player.

They were all hyped beyond recognition when the place opened. 25 years later, you hear very little about the place.

The Trevino course there is mostly forgettable with possibly the worst two hole stretch I've ever played (14-15) on an awful back nine.  The Palmer course isn't much better unless you're looking for drop shot par 3's.

That said, I think the Player course there is one of his better works with good greens (at lest the first 17 holes).

Are any of them going to actually be designing, or is it just taking the 'signature course' thing to its absurd conclusion?  They want to sell massively overpriced lots, so they get together all the big names for the age group that is most likely to have the cash to buy them.

From the standpoint of the success of this, who actually designs the course (probably one of Nicklaus' guys, but who knows) and its quality is mostly irrelevant.  This is a real estate driven course, sold courtesy of the big names, and even if it is a terrible product they'll probably presell most of the lots before anyone is able to determine how good or not good the course is.

I heard yesterday that the site is behind Oakhurst Links (and not on the hotel property).  Those couple of mountains are entirely undeveloped currently.

Apparently, there may already be a routing, which was developed before Mr. Justice purchased the property.  The chosen four are simply providing holes to fit the layout.  The golf course is mountaintop.

I have no idea how it could possibly handle the logistics of a US Open, which is one of the stated goals of the project.

Nicklaus provided the original routing.

Greg, could you please change the title of this thread so that it's more descriptive?  This situation has the potential to be like watching a soap opera on a train wreck (or the outcome could be great - you never know), and it would be ideal if all of the documentation and discussion were in one place that was easier to find on the DG.
