Architect makes it to Senior Am match play
« on: September 08, 2003, 01:57:39 PM »
As long as we're talking Am qualifiers:

Architect Jim Lipe, an occasional poster on GCA.com and formerly of the Nicklaus Design team, made it to the match play portion of the Senior Am, just as Jamie Slonis made it to the Mid Am qualifying.

Also, Amateur great and part-time architect (co/signature architect of Kinloch with Lester Geroge) Vinny Giles also made it to match play at the Senior Am.

The Senior Am is at The Virginian, in Abingdon, VA (and was also AOTD #396 on Friday).

Good luck to them!

Scott,

Thanks for the well wishes in the USGA Senior Amateur.  I did manage to win my first match this morning, so the second round starts early tomorrow.
Just to clear up any misconceptions, I am still employed by Nicklaus Design.  This is my 20th year with Jack.  He does permit me to do some signature work of my own...when my time allows it..LOL.

Jim, Jamie, Greg and Bob,

Congratulations on making it to the big dance, it's a great accomplishment.

When others understand that there are two (2) practice rounds, two (2) qualifying rounds, and 6 match play rounds should you make it to the finals.  That's a lot of golf in eight days, especially for old guys like us.

As to Jamie and Greg, you're young, this should be like a vacation to you.

Good luck to all of you.

Jim,

Congrats on beating Vinny Giles in 19 holes, irony of irony that I mentioned Vinny earlier, too.

I had seen your name on separate projects (U. Club near Baton Rouge is one, I think), thus why I thought you were on your own full time, now.  I guess Tim Liddy does the same thing, getting to do his own stuff while still doing work for Dye (Wintonbury Hills in CT).

Good luck today.
