I came across this quote from Mitch Juricich, co-host of San Francisco's radio show, Hooked on Golf. He was asked what was one of his most memorable golf moments:


"Standing on the 15th tee at Cypress Point. That's where the barrier between this life and the next life is its thinnest. You can see the other side from there."


I thought this was a great comment.

Excellent! Thanks for sharing, David.

I started a thread once about transcendence and transcendent moments on a golf course (i.e. as being perhaps for me the best way to 'rate' a course, not least because by definition it is a subjective experience).

I remember The Emperor sounding a lot like Mitch when talking about NGLA.

The barrier was certainly thin enough for my buddy and I jump out of the car and play 15 and 16 while my wife captained the getaway car on 17 Mile drive ;) ;D

And I didn't think you liked water hazards  ;D

For those golfers who don't have the guts to do what you did, they have to go play other architect's weaker variations of the same two holes 😉

the role of your clubs is to add a touch of reality to an otherwise surreal experience.

I recall standing on the 17th fairway, trying to play a shot beyond my ability, and having trouble getting enough air into my lungs to actually execute the shot (I failed, dismally).  The run of 15, 16 and 17 can literally be breathtaking.

Haha yes!! That and the adrenaline fueled Amen corner at Augusta before the days of Fort Knox security??

David - by a massive stroke of luck, I will be tagging along with a foursome at CPC this April. I'm not sure whether my clubs will enhance or detract from the experience - I have a horrible feeling the latter!

That's pretty good, you're not even Australian!
