It Ain't Easy Bein' Green
« on: December 20, 2014, 09:47:21 PM »
Some easy, some not so easy - I do have the answers so I won't leave you hangin' too long.
The number on each photo corresponds with that greens placement on its respective course.

Is 2 Sleepy Hollow?   Those cliffs are familiar from photos of the Short there.

I believe 2 is #6 or 7 of the current short course, a long downhill par 3 , from the original CBM course.
many of the pictures in my book were filmed on around that green

18 = Columbia Country Club?  I only walked it once long ago, but I remember it had a couple of wild greens with tiers like the one pictured.

I played there quite a bit in the late 80's and early 90's, agree it looks like 18 at Columbia with the 17th green up on the hill in the distance.  While the green is still two tiered and steeply sloped, I don't remember all those rolls.

You should try to play there for the CG, Columbia is a really fun course with a great variety of holes of interest.

Jim,

13.  The caddie on the right looks a lot smaller than the caddie on the left!

Is this Francis Ouimet and Jerome Travers at Ekwanok?  1914 U.S. AM?

I didn't notice the clubhouse until after I posted the photo - lucky crop!  Oakmont it is.

Nice going - Lowery was probably too small to handle that lengthy flagstick.  ;D

No. 16 is a Tillinghast green.  His version of a punchbowl. (Either that or he is baking pie.) I believe the course was originally by William Watson but AWT made some changes in in the early to mid 1920's.  And the name of the course is . . .

I can't remember right now, but it will come to me I am sure.

Jim,

The convex bunkering on # 14 is interesting.

Is it an Emmett, Travis or CBM course.

My guess would be Piping Rock due to the clue
