Merion East moving bunkers and digging, again.
« on: November 25, 2014, 11:21:31 AM »
Drove by yesterday and saw dozers on 2-14-15 and 16. What are they up too now?

Looks like new bunkers greenside on 14, right fairway bunkers being moved on 15. I think the fairway bunker left on 16 is a goner.
I believe they are digging the Keystone pipleline on 2, lots off big stuff out there. A dozen guys all running around.

Any idea Philly boys? Lots of work before the snowfall.

Just drove by today and saw the same thing. I thought they might just be regrassing 14 left of the green

Hello Mike, i wished they would have called me. Played it two weeks ago and that left side was beautiful. I would have gladly put it in my front yard.

My understanding is that they are setting all the holes back to pre-Open widths and restoring the bunkers etc. that had been changed for the event.

Touched on this earlier this month in this thread: http://www.golfclubatlas.com/forum/index.php/topic,59833.0.html

I know the fairway bunkers on 15 are being repositioned to make it an easier hole to drive for the members. I don't think these were bunkers that were changed before the latest US Open, if I recall my host's comments correctly.

A third fairway bunker was added on No. 15 prior to the '13 Open. The carry was around 300 yards from the tips.

I think they need a new measuring device . One is fifty one yards wide, two is fourty seven.  Joe  needs to proof read this stuff.

Maybe I'm the last to know but Gil Hanse has replaced Tom Fazio?

There must be a story here.

Me too!  It reminded me a little of the the 12th at Bandon Trails - miss it left at M's 14th and it would require a very similar recover as would missing it right at BT's 12th.  That particular feature to me seemed to be very original while a bunker would be redundant.

Joel,

Part of that story is that Tom Fazio replaced Gil, now Gil's replaced Fazio  :)
