I can't believe that the North American team would pass up the opportunity to have as a leader of men a man who absorbed the tenets of winning from one of the all time masters--John Wooden of UCLA.  I probably could induce Lynn to provide me with some Wooden expressions but while should the North American's settle for the jockey or the stable boy when they could go directly to the horse?  I ask you?

So it looks like our Captains are Steve Wilson and Conrad Gamble!

Looking at the list of players, from those playing all 5 rounds we have 9 each from North America v GB&I with a number of part timers causing chaos for the Captains...

I've added our tee times to the opening post, and below are points for discussion:

Mon 17 Aug
Sherwood Forest GC
Morning tee times from 9am
Afternoon tee times from 1.30pm
That's only 4 and a half hours between tee times, but this should be plenty if we are playing Foursomes in the morning. We have sandwiches and chips put on for us at lunch. The earlier tee time in the afternoon gives plenty of time for us to get around and then get to somewhere to eat...

The plan (implied even if not carved in stone) has always been to look at the possibility of getting into Nottingham on the tram (for those of us at the Premier in at Phoenix Park) for some food and a drink or two. We should all be finished by 6.30 which does mean its possible to head back to hotels and then get into Nottingham with view to eating somewhere in the city at say 8.30? What does everybody think?

Tues 18 Aug
Notts GC Hollinwell
Morning tee times from 8.36
Afternoon tee times from 2.04

A bit more time between tee times here, so Greensomes is a possibility in the morning if interested, but I will leave this to the Captains... Again sandwiches and chips will be available at lunch.

In the evening we will behaving a formal meal at the golf club, 3 courses, jacket and tie required. I've invited the captain and he has said he will be delighted to join us! I will talk to the club about getting hold of details of any local taxi companies...

Wed 19 Aug
18 holes at Notts GC Hollinwell
Morning tee times from 9.04

I have arranged it that we have 10 tee times booked and so the singles will be played in pairs, rather than in fours as we have had to from time to time in the past... I'm not sure what anyone's plans are for the afternoon, getting away swiftly and the like, so I haven't arranged for any food, but people will be able to look after themselves as required.

Any comments or queries please reply here, send me a DM or give me a call for those that have my number.

Cheers,

James

Foursomes (played properly, with partners walking ahead) is pretty much the only way we get round and out again in time on the Monday morning.  On the Tuesday morning, we have 5 & 1/2 hours between tee times.  Almost any format works in the morning, if we keep moving.

Are we playing 4bbb on both days in the afternoon?

Is there an option for those that want to to go out again on the Wednesday afternoon, separately from the competition?

Food in Nottingham sounds ideal on Monday evening.

Thanks for the fine regular updates.  I agree with Mark with these additional thoughts.  First morning should be a concerted effort to play proper foursomes, walk ahead.
I would prefer greensomes Tuesday, AM, four ball both afternoons.  Late dinner Monday night should not be a problem if tram is arranged.
These just some random thoughts because I will defer to the preference of our captains.
Really looking forward to seeing Notts and Buda participants.

I'm afraid Steve Rowe has to drop out for business reasons.  I'm sure Conrad will contribute his deposit towards some drinks.....

Steve Wilson, Steve Wilson....what an honour! Captain of the North America BUDA Cup team.

This mantle of captaincy has been bestowed on a champion of the game and a great lover of that golden nectar usquabae. Who else should be the keeper of The Malt other than the chap who arranges to meet one in the heart of The Highlands at no other place than The Whisky Castle in Tomintoul!

Oh yes there should be many a tipple betwixt cup and tee as these games play out. Here I am living vicariously, yet again, as our GCA stalwarts set forth to do battle.

Have a great time gentlemen and yes, that's right, a captain's duty is to write frequent missives as to the state of that play and any vignettes provided by the imbibing!

Cheers Colin

I would have answered sooner but my internet access has been spotty and latterly non existent at my B&B for the past thre days.  Sort of restored now.

Bad as the internet connection my goldf has been worse, so bad I earnestly considered dropping out of the BUDA experience this year but for better or worse I decided not to be a quitter. That being said I'm looking for a volunteer who game is sufficient disarray or who has ahithertonhidden taste for machismo to serve as this captain's batman and fall on his sword simultaneously at the time together as I do.

Parse that.

In light of that admission it seems the least I can do is bring the Whisky, but I may consume the most of it during my rounds.  If Colin were here I'd suggest we trade him back and forth for each match.

As far as dining arrangements on Monday I leave that to those with local experience and knowledge.

Looking at the times I concur with my fellow Netherlands Traffic Camera Scofflaw, Mark Pearce, that foursomes has to be the way to go on Monday morning.  I'm not sure I've participated in   greensomes but I'm all for variety and anything that would expedite play.

In all truth though pace of play is not a primary consideration for me as I intend to  send myself out first so I will have more time to drink more, err, attend to the myriad and burdensome administrative duties that devolve onto the captains in these BUDA showdowns.

More later when I'm confident my internet connection is steady.

My apologies Garland.  My primary recollection of Perranporth was the wind and the fear that you and I were in the same peril as Norgay as Hillary to be swept to our fates.  The trauma lingers.

Goodness gracious me Steve! I think you should have "parsed", I mean passed, on that last malt that you have scoffed judging by the above quotation from your post!
Notwithstanding, your game may be in the doldrums but that can only mean you will be able to pay full attention to your team's requirements and slay The Sassenach!!

See you all soon.

Thank you for working so hard on this event. I'm so looking forward to seeing all my good friends... we've become quite a "merry band" haven't we? Fitting that we should be meeting up in Sherwood Forest.  ;D

No way! It's a once in a lifetime opportunity for a Yank like me!!! Like when you turn 64 (as I did this year) and you get to play the appropriate Beatles song all day. Annoying? Yes! But, it only happens once in lifetime, so you just have to indulge yourself.  ;D
Sorry, I'll try and muster some restraint going forward.

I am very disappointed CBS opted for coverage of the PGA over The Buda Cup.

Have fun boys; play hard; and don't let the local female population know Spangles is carrying three balls

I'll miss you all but am well covered by my proxy and former Worthy Grand Master (WGM) Sterling Forsythe from Nutbush, TN.
