GCA - Land of Enchantment - final head count
« on: August 25, 2003, 11:36:38 AM »
Gentlemen,

I'd like to use this thread as a final head count.
All reservations must be made at the Radisson by the end of this week, otherwise the rooms will be given up to the public.  The hotel is currently sold out.  - Last chance.
I will also be giving up the extra tee times at Paa-Ko and Black Mesa this Saturday.  Looks like we might need to split up the Texans to have a balanced east coast west coast battle.  Last I checked Southwest was having a pretty good sale.

Final head count:

Ran Morrisset (2)- Southern Pines, NC (1 Monday)
Mike Nuzzo - Memorial, Houston, TX (Yes Monday)
Baxter Spann - Woodlands, Houston, TX (Yes Monday)
Craig Edgmand - OK (no monday)
Michael Whitaker - SC (Yes Monday)
Steve Lang (2) - Woodlands, Houston, TX (3) Sunday at Paa-Ko
John Vander Borght - Oakmont, PA (Yes Monday)
Richard Daley - Wild Horse, Green Bay, WS (Yes Monday)
Bill McBride - Pensacola, FL (no monday)
George Pazin - Pittsburgh, PA
David Silk - Boston, MA (Yes monday)
Lou Duran - Dallas, TX
Jonathan Cummings - Bethesda, MD (no monday)
Brad Swanson - Denver, CO (no monday)
Doug Wright - Denver, CO (no monday)
Mike Nordstrom - Pinon Hills, Farmington, NM (Yes Monday)
Adam Clayman - Pinon Hills, Farmington, NM (Yes Monday)
Tom Huckaby - Norcal (no monday)
Kevin Fredrickson  - Norcal (no monday)
Paul Hermsmeyer (2) - NE (Yes monday)
Jason Hinez - NE (no monday)

Mr. Fredrickson and I stand ready to kick butt on all easterners.   ;)

As for splitting the squads, well... John V. is a west coast lad at heart, he's only fairly recently moved to PA.  And Bill McBride lived here for a long time also... Craig Edgmand also comes from Seattle area... Give us each of these fine blokes and there you go.  ;D

Thanks again for doing all this... man I can't wait.

Wow.  What an impressive line-up!  A veritable who's who among America's guests.  I must close my eyes, click my heels and say "I will not cancel our trip to Sonoma" three times, lest I opt in at the last minute.

Photographs and reports will be expected.

Regards,

Mike

Mike - I'm all booked and ready to go! Thanks for all your work on our behalf.

To All - Are we still undecided on golf on Friday. I'm flying out on Thursday and was hoping there would be an "official" game available... will some of the early arrivers be getting together on Friday or is it every man for himself? Do we need a sign-up sheet?

We weren't born in TX, but got here as soon as we could.. and can more readily say GO BLUE and GO BUCKS! than hook em Horns!

Sounds like TH is loading his west coaster's squad.. getting ready to air it out in the thin air of NM..

Mike Whitaker.. we'll be there fri if you want to hook up

Once we divvy up the talent east-west (not Huck's way) ::) we ought to have something to play for.  I wonder if Adam could get his talented artist girlfriend to contribute a NM theme ceramic or something like a Kachina doll to be kept at Ran's house with a notation of which region of the country currently holds the victory honor.

Aw heck, mine was just a shot in the dark, gathering three chaps I have played a bit of golf with... OK, in the interest of fairness, we ought to post handicaps... not that any match should be played at NET, but this way at least Mike can make proper adjustments to the teams, and also set up matches (as I did for The King's Putter, or tried to anyway!).  Mine is currently 3.8, but given a whole bunch of July/August scores came in on the bad side, I'll likely rise to 5-6 come the Sep. 1 reporting date.

Of course this all assumes that there will be a competition at all... damn I am putting the cart before the horse here big time.  I shall try to stay the hell out of it  - natural organizer / control freak tendencies are taking over...  ;D

After a little wavering due to a positive personal development, I'm in.

I'm debating whether or not to fly out early to join RJD & AC on their trek to west Texas. It depends on whether or not anyone can join me in a round at TT - their foursome is full. Anyone interested, either post here, message me, or email me at sunflowr@usaor.net

I'll try to practice so my point isn't an automatic win for the evil west squad. :)

P.S. Huckster, don't tell the kind folks at GD about your rising index!

Steve - Yes, let's get together. Mike Nuzzo mentioned in a message that we might be able to play "Marty Sanchez" and the "Great 28" on Friday. That sounds like a good plan to me, however, I am wide open to anything that suits the group. I'm sure it will all come together as we close in on the dates.

I have a call into the DOG at Twin Warriors, santa ana. If he's receptive, I will let everyone know what to expect. Other than that Marty Sanchez does sound great. Jason Hinez is also intersted in joing a game on friday.
George- Your welcome to join us across the panhandle. I have a CRV with plenty of room. We have a room at the Holiday inns in both Amarillo and Lubbock. But only double occupancy. So you'd need your own. Try Priceline cause Hotwire doesn't have Lubbock. Also, Dick gets in on Tuesday. Can you make it then? He arrives at 1 pm.

As for Sheryl's art as a trophy piece. I can bring along a pedastal pony bowl. It has two pony heads as handles on the side of the bowl.

If anyone wants a preview, I'd be happy to email a picture to you. Just let me know.

Adam,
Please give Doug or me a head-up on what you guys decide for Friday.  Doug and I intend on playing Friday, but we were thinking about playing either Walking Stick, Grandote Peaks (both in CO), or perhaps Taos CC on the way down.

Cheers,
Brad Swanson

I'm in for sure.  My schedule is that I 'm arriving on the Thursday the 18th in the afternoon and leaving the next Wednesday in the morning.  I'm up for Friday golf somewhere and if anyone else will be there on Tuesday the 23rd perhaps we can arrange something that will still leave me the opportunity to get back to Albuquerque Tuesday night.

As for my index, it is currently 8.1.

Johnv,

8.1?!?  What happened? Don't you play anymore? Or did you switch to playing left handed?   ;D  ;D

Kinding aside, I'm arriving in Alb on early Friday morning and hope to play that afternoon somewhere.

Craig, I officially suck.

I assume that people are only getting rooms in Santa Fe through Saturday night and those who are playing Monday are heading to Farmington on Sunday.  Is that correct?

Adam,

When i worked with some brits, we had a quaiche drinking cup for our annual tourney, it has two handles for passing libations amongst celebrants.. Your two headed cup sounds great for NM version.. Also, in the future, the "winners" being required to charge the cup with some scottish malt whiskey or such at the beginning of the next year's celebration of winners..

Count me about 9 index, Ms Sheila a 19, I give her 5 a side when we both play from the white tees.. FYI,.. in the name of full disclosure, I got as low as 5.8 index this year after entering NC trip scores..

JohnV- That is correct. Those going to Farmington will leave Paa-Ko Ridge and Hopefully get in town with enough light to see Riverview's 9 holes. Either the backnine designed by Spann or the front, a homemade jobby built in 1954.

As for Friday, It is all up in the air at this moment but I will do what I can. Mr. Martinez at Santa ana will hopefully return my call, soon. Ha ha

If anybody with any real juice can set anything up, I do need the assistance.

Ok boys. Here we go.
I have reserved five tee times at Twin Warriors for Friday. 2 are in the morning and three are in the afternoon. I know for a fact that Paul Hermsmeyer and his friend will be two who take spots in both groups. That leaves six players to fill out the morning times. 10:10 is the first time and for those who fly into town that day 2:30 is the first time in the p.m.
Dick and I are on the fence and will lose if snoozed. Please confirm what your preferences are and hopefully we can get this all settled in stone soon. Gary Davis the head-pro will comp any panelists and give the nm resident rate($75) to the rest of the afficionodo's.
Ok, be civil now and speak up.

Adam,

Count me in for one of the morning tee times on Friday.  I'm a Golfweek panelist.

For those who don't want to spend $100+ for a hotel, I just booked a room at the Quality Inn Santa Fe for $58+tax a night.  It is 3.6 miles from the Radisson.  I booked this through Orbitz with a AAA discount.

Adam - I'm positively in for a Friday morning spot at TW. I think I'd like to see the "Great 28" in the afternoon, but I might play TW in the afternoon as well if there is still a place available after all have spoken up. Thanks!

Adam,

I won't be in early enough for a morning time at TW, but the afternoon is good. Was there any times between 10 and 2 when you called?

I already mentioned to Adam, but I more than likely will take Friday off from golf.  My back won't take that much golf and I want to do the official Black Mesa, Paa-Ko, Pinion part of this, and we are already adding in a punch around at Don's and Texas Tech.  Maybe I'll go down to the SF plaza and find a Kachina doll to play with :o ...huh, in your dreams! ::) :P
