It doesn't look like this will be showing here in the US. Might have to wait until it comes out on video. Viva Seve!

I might go to Europe just to see this movie.  The actor's swing looks pretty credible.  I love the voice of Trevino saying "touch of class, touch of class" after Seve hits that long iron from a downhill lie in the Open.

"Touch of class, baby.  Touch of class!"

I love the "Please be still.  I know you are nervous, but so am I" comment.  Also, I wouldn't be surprised to see the child actor become a renowned golfista profesional one day.

As I don't imagine it will be released here in the US, my best hope is that it is available on Netflix in the near future. Hope it's good and earns money at the box office.

For my money, literally, Seve is the only player I would spend money to watch. There was something about the man that was magnetic and some of the shots he pulled off were otherworldly. As Ben Crenshaw once said, in awe, "Seve plays shots I don't even see in my dreams."

With respect to the Ryder Cup, what sets him soooooooooooo head and shoulders above anyone, and in particular Eldrick, was his ability to somehow raise the level of play, not just for himself, but his partners as well. Anyone that saw the '95 Ryder Cup, when he was teamed with David Gilford, was treated to something transcendental as Gilford, who somehow made the team and was suffering from a near fatal case of stage fright, turn into a world beater under the care and tutelage of the Maestro, dispatching of Faxon and Jacobson 4&3. Walking off the green in victory, Gilford's face revealed a man in shock at the events that had just transpired. Even when Seve was playing like a 4 handicapper, he had it in him to win.

He won The Open in 79 and while doing so, hit 9 fairways. FOR THE WEEK! For me, there has been no one even close when it comes to the "it" factor.

RIP.

With all due respect, you can't blame Tiger for his partners failing to step up. Maybe Seve raised them, and maybe Tiger didn't. And maybe not. No one will ever know.

I just don't understand that thinking, that somehow Woods is less because he couldn't rally teammates like Seve. Who could?

Woods and Seve grew up in entirely different environments and I think there are enough quotes from Seve to show that he was very motivated to prove to Americans that European playes could compete and win vs American golfers. Woods grew up with different motivations.

Why can't we honor the greatness of Seve without bringing Woods into the discussion?

Don

Very fair question. The only "fault" one can find in Woods' career has been his performance in the Ryder Cup. His record is 13-14-2, which for arguably the 2nd best player of all time, hugs root.

On the other hand, one could almost make a case that Seve underperformed in that he "only" won 5 majors. In the RC, however, to my mind he was the greatest of all time, thanks to a myriad of reasons.

And there's no doubt that his record and career has been discounted on this side of the pond by xenophobic "fans". Be that as it may, each has contributed to this game mightily, in their respective ways.

That is how I feel. Thank God they are different, just as Hogan and Nelson, Nicklaus and Palmer...
Seve had a charisma that few can match. Loved watching him play, hated watching him play against my side in the RC because you could just tell how much it meant to him to prove his side belonged, or in many cases was better. Few can ever match the motivation he brought to that event and I think the Euros still feed off of it, like they have to honor him by being just as tenacious.

D Cronan -

Colin Montgomery's Ryder Cup record is 20-9-7. The one (and possibly only) thing that is shown by comparing Monty's and Seve's Ryder Cup records to Tiger's and Phil Mickelson's (11-17-6) is that the Euros care a lot more about the Ryder Cup than the American's do.

Gentlemen,

Seve was, during his life, and is, now that he has departed, my golfing hero. What a champion!

Whenever I am rhapsodising about him I invariably use the words buccaneering and swashbuckling in regards to his style. I thought he was just wonderful. As David C. suggested his play and presence seemed transcendental at times.

Thanks for the tribute video link David T.  ....it is bookmarked.

I suspect the movie will not make its way to Oz and I do so hope that it is not overly cloying and sentimental. We'll see.

Cheers Colin

The young lad who plays the young Seve has been on UK tv this week. Was on sky sports golf show displaying his copy of the Seve swing. 5 handicapper apparently and quite obnoxiously good looking, he could be a wee star. Very nice, unassuming and, coming from Pedrena, genuinely has Seve as his hero. Good luck to the movie.

Having said that, my prediction is the movie will be an overly sentimental pile of cack.

Just saw it in St. Andrews of all places-which certainly was surreal.
Very much worth seeing-but then I'm a huge Seve fan, as well of a huge fan of the two majors he repeat times.

It could have been much better, was basically what you'd show at his wake. Wish they would have painted a more complete picture of the man.

The biggest tribute I've think I've seen to Seve came during the 1989 Ryder Cup.  Christy O'Conner Jnr had just hit his 2 iron into the 18th and was being interviewed by the BBC when he randomly blurted out "Seve Ballesteros is the most incredible human being." The fact that he'd say that unprompted - having just experienced the greatest moment of his career (he'd never even won a point in a Ryder Cup match up then) shows the influence Ballesteros had on his teammates during the Ryder Cup.
