I would tend to think that it is the drive on a par 5 that is the boring one.
All you are trying to do is keep it out of the crap, and perhaps get it far enough down there in order to have a crack at the green if you are of that length. If you stuff it up, you have that extra shot to try and recover and so the pressure is less
Always exceptions. The 5's at my home course are all second shot par 5's - I cant reach any of them in two, and so I am having to aim for very particular spots with my second as there is a penalty for getting it wrong
