Any Winter Golf Photos? Snow or frozen maint meld too
« on: February 13, 2014, 06:29:48 PM »
I loved the hardcore winter golf photos that were posted maybe back in Dec or early jan.  Anymore new ones?  It's in the 20's finally in SE Mich!

Ben,

During the snowstorm of February 2011, I made a painting of the statue of Payne Stewart beside the 18 green at Pinehurst Country Club
's #2 course.  It can be viewed on my website at frank-giordano-.fineartamerica.com, along with others of my paintings of golf holes.  The title of the painting is "Payne Stewart: Another Perfect Day in Pinehurst."[/img]

In a great tragedy for this website, it appears the Reverse Jans threads have disappeared. Hopefully someone smarter than me can find them.

Here is the best kind of winter golf course photo!  Removal of a group of cottonwoods next to the 7th green.

4 of us Michigan GCAers enjoyed some fantastic Jan weather!  Thanks to some great putting by my partner we halved the back 9!
Anybody else get on the links?

Little foggy to start

I started a thread about this once. I think the snow reveals more than it obscures. When there are no man-made signs and signifiers to be seen (bunker sand, rough, closely mowed grrens) all I can make out are the contours -- the shapes big and small and how they relate to each other. If you slowly drive up to a course and start wandering around, the snow sure helps you see how much dirt was moved and whether or not the course truly fits its surrounds.

Yesterday at Cobb's Creek.   The warm weather brought out quite a few folks, but Joe Bausch and I hosted a pizza party for the regulars and staff instead of playing.

Ironically, I took this picture from where the iconic clubhouse that was 100 years old burned down this time last year.   Until I looked at this photo I never realized the irony that there is a fire hydrant right there.

I really liked Ru MacDonald's aerial of Cruden Bay last week.

Fabulous photo - scroll right to see it full size.
Interesting how the tees on the 5th hole have moved over the decades. A few decades ago the tee was close to the 4th green where the man is standing and the fairway was blind from the tee apart from a narrow walk-through gap.

A couple from this weekend at Goswick. The frost melted by about the 4th or 5th hole.
