Tim Weiman and I are apparently out on an island about Ballybunions #8, but it is  a superbly strategic hole given that the prevailing wind usually blows across it, or from behind, bringing the evil left side bunkers into play. It's a marvelous hole.

All the above are so diabolically placed that I'd wager a good number that few amateurs of any caliber could play par across the list under normal, everyday playing conditions found at each.

Thats the point for me, can't normally hit full wedge.  Short 3s are interesting partly because they are awkward.  I would rather hit between an 8 and a 9 rather than have to muck around with a part wedge.

Definitely not omitted due to quality.  My girlfriend was behind the camera and didn't take any photos in the right direction.  I can offer this shot of the tee box.  We need to get back sometime soon so that she can try again!

Agree with Sean. In our recent college event I moved the tees on the hole pictired above up front and put a short right pin near the bunker and the ridge. hole played about 90 yards and scores ranged from 2s to 6s. Fun stuff to watch especially the guys that missed it about 8-10 feet left and watch their ball feed left then catch the false front and almost end up on the beach.

But if we are only discussing holes under 120 yards, then we may as well start the thread again. The classic Postage Stamp is out for a start.

That said, my 96 yard Fairy Dell from North West is still well under the barrier. And all the scarier for it.

Uphill 120 yard par three to a narrow and long green. Miss it then you have a tough up and down!

The coolest short three I have played from the modern era is the 11th(?) at Hanse's Applebrook  ~120 to a tiny pinnacle green dropping off sharply on all sides.

Does all architecture need to be viewed from the back tees?  When will the time come that folks automatically reference the daily tees?  I spose even amongst striving archies they want to see courses stretched to their limits - the pressure to do so must be immense.  In any case, 123 yards from Champ tees qualifies as ~120 yards  .

No Sean. It doesn't and it isn't. Postage stamp still out from daily tees as are 90 percent of examples on this thread.

I'm all for really short par threes (I've just built a 125 yard one myself) but I just disagree with your ceiling. Even 140 yards rules out 50 percent above.

No matter though. It was a passing comment.

EDIT: Actually I've changed my mind. Let's call it 120 from the back and stop these endless lists that just come down to personal plays seeing as there are far too many good examples to choose from and no real sense of critical analysis
