Gamble Sands - David McLay Kidd - 2013

How did I miss this opening??? There are no discussion about this new course anywhere in the treehouse.

There was a mention of it's opening earlier. Perhaps the what's opening in 2013 thread?
Other than that there have been a few mentions. I tried finding stuff online about it for my trip to KP at Sagebrush, as coming from Wine Valley we had to go close nearby, but there was little mention online. Nothing about Kidd's work. Some about the Dye work.

Speaking of the website, the course under construction in Portugal, Comporta Dunes, looks very intriguing.  Anyone know the area or any details?

about an hour north of Wenatchee,  nearly 3 hours west of Spokane. Less than 4 hours from Seattle

Not sure of the owners thinking, but assume their intent is to draw from the vacationers and second home folks in Chelan area.  Lots of Seattle folks have places on Lake Chelan and good golf has always been a missing ingredient to the mix. That said, it will be a thin market. The history of Desert Canyon proves how thin.  It better be a really good to draw beyond that area.

Are you kidding me? The Nebraska sand hills or Bandon are the "middle of nowhere" compared to Gamble Sands. The number of Seattleites who travel to Wenatchee or Chelan is off the charts. Plus, it is an easy day trip to make from Seattle; maybe even a 36 hole day trip.

Isn't it pretty far north of Chelan? That's aggressive for a 36 hole day trip.

I don't think Seattle is a great golf town so to speak. The locals don't flock to Chambers Bay and that is close and a great golf course. Wine Valley is similarly far away and it isn't super busy despite being top notch. I look forward to playing it but man it looks like a tough place to make it work.

It depends where you hang your hat.
Bandon can be a 36 hole day trip from Portland
Sand Hills can be a 36 hold day trip from Lincoln
From Portland Gamble Dunes won't even sniff a single day trip of 18 holes for me.

I think you can now see some of the original clearing work on whatever (bing,google,microsoft) earth on the hilltops south of town.

The locations Pete is referring to is Paradise Hill Road, Brewster, WA 98812, just north of downtown Brewster.

I believe the satellite image is showing the first three Dye holes that they built after abandoning that project. DMC course is another 18 holes all together (by the same backers), but I am guessing it is built near that site.

It is only 30 min away from Chelan, which is a very popular vacation destination for local Seattleites so I don't think they will too much trouble getting people to visit. Other golf options at Chelan are not very good at all.

I do a 36 hole day to Wine Valley every year (4 hours each way). I wouldn't even hesitate making a trek out to this course if it is good.

Looks like the opening date will be August 1st. Maybe someone who talked with DMK or went to the Gamble Sands booth  at the Seattle Golf Show will chime in.

Under course/news the latest new item is the Cascade Golfer story from last December. I will try to link directly.

Yes.  It is pretty much a desert climate in the upper Columbia river basin.
