Jeff..no problem with me on that, nobody had reinvented the wheel or found any magic bullets since Mr Hogan.
I believe they swing it faster and hit it longer!! and I believe equipment is to blame more than any other single reason.

Hogan wrote of torque...that comes from the difference between the hips and shoulders at full rotation. Right?

I bet if you looked at the top of the swings you'd see considerably more spread between hip and shoulder rotation in today's players than that Hogan video.

Looks to me like the shoulders rotate about the same and the hips about half as much today...clearly by choice.

I also think if you looked at the same swings at impact the relative rotation would be at least equal today as well...in other words, they're clearing their hips really aggressively after not much rotation away.

I think I read somewhere that when they got hold of his Merion 1951 one iron (i.e. the famous picture to 18), they measured it, found out it was todays version of a modern day three iron as regards length and loft and then based on that they worked out the lie was 8 degrees flat.  :o

Guess it's a swing that you would never see these days.
