Leaving for Ireland/N. Ireland
« on: June 16, 2013, 11:28:24 PM »
After a year of planning, I'm leading a group of 16 to the Emerald Isle. Our line up for the trip:

Portrush - Valley
Royal Country Down
Ballyliffin - Glashedy
Portstewart
Portrush - Dunluce
Enniscrone
Carne
Co. Sligo

We are staying in Portrush and Sligo - final two nights (no golf) in Dublin.

Any last minute tips from the board?

Take a tour of the Bushmill's distillery and visit the Giants Causeway.

The Ramore Wine Bar in Portrush is a nice place for a drink and a meal.

I found the clubhouse bar at Ballyliffen pretty lively  - so maybe allow for some time after your round instead of heading strait back to Portrush.

Darren Clarke is known for favour this bar near Portrush       http://www.bayviewhotelni.com/

Consider taking a powercart at Carne (usually available) - it is a long hilly walk and the cart might give you an advantage over your playing partners as they start to drag the last few holes.

Make sure you visit Dunluce Castle - doesn't take too long to explore and is only a few minutes drive from Portrush.

If you wanted to play an extra 9 holes one day and not get too tired - the 9 hole Bann course at Castlerock is pure links

Figure out a way to play Castlerock.  The holes that head up into the dunes are terrific.  The Valley will be a great place to start your trip.
