More than 10 years between Opens at Oakmont? I can't believe that will happen. And will the USGA consider Medinah? Seems like the PGA has dibs on Medinah (and maybe Baltusrol too).

The Senior PGA. And this year they will have the Solheim Cup.

No USGA events there to date (it was to be the alt course for the Am last year but was scrapped). Further events are likely to be PGA-related. Hard to see a men's major there, but if it does well with the Solheim, the Ryder Cup would seem a reasonable possibility.

I think you're pretty close on the Pinehurst date.  In an interview last year Mr. Dedman let it slip that they were already on the schedule for 2022, the USGA said they wouldn't comment on opens past 2019 at the time.

I think Herb Kohler would desperately want a US Open at Whistling Straits. He threw his hat in with the PGA when he took two PGAs and the Ryder Cup, but that's only through 2020. His problem is that he'll likely be competing against Erin Hills for a US Open by the mid-2020s, because I'd be very surprised if the USGA did a one-and-done w/ Erin Hills after its Open in 2017. It's Mike Davis' personal playpen, and unless things really fall apart with the championship, I'd expect another go-around (and since the USGA seems more interested in banning legal swings with a putter and not pulling back on balls and clubs, EHills is one of the few places with the length to handle what will likely be 400+ yard drives by, say, 2025.)

Pinehurst has a sizeable dedicated space in the main building for the 2014 Opens gift shop. It is such a unique venue (location, resort, growing and thriving) that the USGA is wise to lock it up in its rota. I bet the PGA would love to get its hands on #2.

Now THAT would be cool.  But I can't imagine how much the PGA of America would want to make the deal.  But, that would be the perfect time of year.

Actually the coolest idea ever floated was to play the Dunhlll Links in the Hamptons one year when the Open had been at St. Andrews, and play it at Sebonack, National and Shinnecock.  Not completely out of the question, since Mr. Rupert is a founding member at Sebonack.

Other than for the owners vanity why does Sebonack want to hold majors? Surely the members have a restricted season, pay lots of money and know its good anyway.

Plenty. Lots of acreage hasn't been used on the property; the total parcel is 240 acres. Parking at Westhampton airport could be utilized too.

That's what they do at Baltusrol, park at Newark Airport and run shuttles.

Plus, the college has ample parking in June.

We had 4000 spots at the potato field in town and another 300 at the Shinnecock swamp. Add to that another 250 on the property.  When you add in Westhampton airport then there is more than enough.

What clubs would the men hit into the greens at Sebonack?  Assume f&f conditions.

Not as many hybrids as the women hit into greens, that's for sir-tain.

You would see a lot more hybrids and long irons off tees if it played fast and firm. Guys really don't need driver on F&F unless the course measures 8K.

If you examine the other threads on the astonishment of how short the course played on days one and two for the women, that's how short it would seem if it played F&F for the men.
