Good question Mac. Marayui is not a wonderful course, but I would certainly go there just to enjoy the Clubhouse which is fantastic.

Chechessee looks very cozy.

Mac -

Castle Stuart is a course well worth playing, but I often joke that it is almost worth the green fee just to sit in the gents locker room and admire the views up and down the Moray Firth.

The Jockey Club. The green that you see on the left of the first pic is the only double green Mackenzie ever built (as far as I understand): the 9th and 18th of the Blue Course.

Duff House Royal, a Mackenzie design in Banff, Scotland, has a double green. Holes #1 & #17 share a large green.

David:

Thanks for that. I had read in a book on Mackenzie that the JC Blue was the only one. It is good to know that the information is not accurate.

Looking at these photos, got me thinking.

Is there a club you'd travel to, just to spend time in the clubhouse?

I half jokingly asked at Brookline my last visit if there were locker room memberships.  Garden City is another I'd visit just for the hospitality.

I'd love to hang out in the R&A Clubhouse for awhile.  The history of it, I suppose.

Augusta National...no doubt!

Sportsman/Adventure loving golfer.

I think the nicest clubhouse or most impressive is in Venezuela at Caracas Country Club and I was told was done by the same architect that did Wingfoot. Pity don´t have any potos..will check the web site later and see if there are any to view the similariites if any.

Another of my home clubs: the Hurlingham Club.

The clubhouse in 1931, after its extension.

The clubhouse today.

Some shots of the interior. The living room.

The bar.

The billiards room.

The hall.

The main dining room.

The Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII) and his brother the Duke of Kent (later King George VI) in front of the main door of the Hurlingham Club.

Rosario Golf Club, in the province of Santa Fe. This clubhouse was blown up by terrorists in the 70s and was rebuild.

I'd love to hang out in the R&A Clubhouse for awhile.  The history of it, I guess.

I've been fortunate enough to do that several times and its been fun.  Push the silent buzzer and someone comes to take your drinks order.  Go upstairs for lunch and get hammered on the excellent and reasonable club claret.  Enjoy the great collection of books and periodicals in the reading room.  Sneak a peek in Peter Dawson's office at the huge Mackenzie map of the Old Course from 1924, unchanged until 2013.   ::)

But no longer as an unaccompanied guest of a member.  Bummer.

Those photos look great - I'm adding Argentina to my golf bucket list!

I'm adding Argentina to my life bucket list... Never mind the golf....

I don't want to thread jack but it is a fascinating country, that I must go back to. There is a really interesting mix of European cultures, the ones you expect like Spanish and Italian and the ones you don't like the German/Swiss log cabins in Bariloche. I'm told there is still a village in the pampas (?) thats prominent language is still Welsh! I was surprised by the amount of British influence you could feel around too, the clubhouses shown are obvious examples as already pointed out.

The lifestyle of football, steak, more steak, red wine, more football, more red wine, staying out till sunrise and then coffee and pastries to wake up to isn't too bad either, add in a Mackenzie course and your bound to have a good time.

Buenos Aires is quite possibly my favourite city in the world, I will try to stop by on my way down to Patagonia one day, Torres Del Paine is calling me.

There wouldn't be much travel, as it's less than 5 minutes from my home, but TGC may be my pick. Those leather chairs next to the fireplace in the clubhouse/locker room just might be the most comfortable chairs EVER.
