Golspie Golf Club: "On course for full recovery"
« on: May 12, 2013, 08:53:08 AM »
Thanks to the very hard work of the 3-person greenskeeping staff, the membership and contributions of time, equipment and sweat from the greenskeeping staffs of several other golf clubs in the area, Golspie Golf Club re-opened all 18 holes for play on May 1. I played the course on May 4 and it was in surprisingly good shape.

Here is the whole story: http://www.golfbusinessnews.com/news/courses/golspie-golf-club-on-course-for-full-recovery/

A friend and I are currently on vacation in the Highlands and played Golspie today.  Were it not for some construction equipment building a seawall along one of the fairways fronting the ocean - either the 3rd, 4th or 5th - you'd never know that that the course was hit last December by what golf shop manager Jeanette Cumming called a "tsunami."  The entire course was in excellent condition, the greens rolled very true and the rebuilt 7th tee looked to us first-timers like it had been there since the course opened.  A very fun course to play that we really enjoyed, especially the par-3s, with just a dash of quirk thrown in at #5 and very testing finishing holes on both sides (#9 - Perfection [420Y] and #18 - Drum Brae [435Y]).

Andy -

Thanks for the report. Glad to hear that Golspie continues to mend and the course has rounded into shape. Golspie is indeed "a very fun course to play."

After playing yesterday I had no idea the course was not fully operational 2 months ago.  I thought the condition of the course was very good.

Joe -

If you have a chance, go to the Golspie GC Facebook page. You should be able to find pictures from the tidal surge damage of late December. The 5th green was literally buried under rocks and boulders washed upon it from the seawall. The water almost reached the front edge of the par-3, 6th green, which is 150 yards or so inland from the seawall.
