Bruce,
After 3 frustrating years of near misses I finally did it last year.
So much is dependent on the courses you play.
Courses like NGLA and GCGC are particularly difficult because par is 73
Other courses are shorter versus courses like Mountain Ridge, Winged Foot, Baltusrol and others.
Had I played more at Preakness Hills, which is a terrific, sporty course at 6,500, I think i would have done it sooner and more often.
My dad shot his age from 67 thru 78, and that was before hi-tech
I always wanted to shoot my age at 79 and 85, and that still remains a goal.
But 75, on a par 73 difficult course, from the Championship tees on a windy day, in a medal play competition, is a very, very satisfactory round.
The week before, a man who was my physician, 60 years ago, told me that he almost shot his age.
I think he's 92, maybe more.
But here he was, all excited to tell me about his round and how he thinks this may be his year.
My dad always told me that golf was a game for the ages, and he was right, young or old, the challenge and fun are intoxicating.
