Masters Infrastructure

Does anyone have any idea what (if any) infrastructure is left on the course after the Masters each year?  

-Scoreboards
-TV towers
-Grandstands

Some of it looks (very) permanent and I would think it would detract a little from the course the other 51 weeks weeks of the year – although I guess that is more like 30 weeks a year given the fact they are closed for the summer.  

I would think moving it all out and storing it would be very expensive, but then again it is Augusta National...

I believe the only thing that's permanent are some camera towers, not sure which ones though...everything else is temporary.

All of it comes down. Scoreboards, towers, grandstands are all stored away (I'd presume the grandstands are leased).

I believe the Media Center and the new Berckmans Place are permanent.

Most of the technology and broadcast wiring has been placed underground and is permanent. Everything above the ground comes off the course.. my understanding from colleagues who have played in the Media Day is that it's all off the course by sundown on Tuesday.

Yes, but they're not on the course. As Anthony noted, cabling below is permanent as well. Augusta was actually wired for 18-hole coverage decades before CBS was allowed to do it.

The only things on the inner portion of the golf course that don't come down are all the restrooms and the members retreat to the right of 14 fairway. It takes a good 3 weeks or so to remove it all. All the leaderboards and tv towers are based underground, so they just fill them back in with dirt and sod over them.

The restrooms are the nicest on-course restrooms you will ever see at a golf tournament.

Permanent, running water, etc. Greatest piece of patron-friendly infrastructure that you will see.

The best-run major sporting event I've ever attended, and it's not even close. The benefit of doing it every year in the same place, I suppose.

I noticed that this year they did not have the media observation stand or other TV towers to the left of the 18th green, yet the CBS flyovers for holes 9 and 18 showed these structures.  Therfore CBS must have been reusing old footage.

I just got home from working my 4th Masters Tournament. As people have mentioned the only thing on the golf course that stays are the permanent buildings, such as the restroom buildings and the Retreat. They built the retreat about four years ago to give the members a place to relax, eat, drink and watch golf on the course but at the farthest point from the clubhouse. All the other buildings such as the press building, new Berckmans Place and the structures along patrons corridor stay year round. These buildings are out of the way during normal member play. The club has done such an amazing job of almost disguising these facilities as to not be seen during the rest of the year. From behind the scenes I can tell you guys its the best sporting event in the world. They do so much to try and make it the most enjoyable experience for every players, member, and MOST importantly, every patron on property. What a finish this year!!!

Jack - am I correct that the didn't have the normal structures to the left of #18?  Do you know why?

I do remember there being a series of small temporary structures left of 18 green and right of the 9th green. Not sure why they weren't there this year but the only reasons would be that their removal improved the tournament. I think patron movement and views were greatly enhanced without those structures there.

Augusta told the Golf Writers Association of America the press stand was removed for "esthetics." A smaller press stand to the right of the 12th tee came down a few years ago.

Do the concession stands come down? They look quite permanent.

Notice that there is now only one structure to the left of 18 rather than three.

They built the retreat about 2 or 3 years ago. The clubhouse wasn't built to host a hundred members and their guests at one time. I suspect they put the retreat out there to encourage them to wander out on the course more often (and not linger in the clubhouse). If you weren't actively looking for it, you would probably never see it.

They do look permanent but also do come down. They also moved the temporary building behind 18 where the players signed their scorecard. I didn't see it myself, but the guys were walking straight to the locker room after the round. I imagine they have an area set up in or near the locker room for that. I saw Tom Renaldi stalking players in that area after their round.

My understanding is the Masters range is only ever used for the tournament.
