At last some restoration entirely faithful to the orignal creators work.

I really like how the archie blended the bunker into the fairway and greensite...very C&C-ish.

I take it everyone knows that is the wind, right?  The cup had so much sand it in on Saturday that the pin couldn't go in!

Its actually blown as far as the 17th green.

It does look cool but if it's left there too many people would be hitting over into the 18th section of the joint fairway and create issues with guys off the 18th tee.  I can see the guys out there now trying to get rid of the sand off the green.

Simon as you know, That area now has a path through it and is mostly broken up grass.   It allows me to swing away with a 5w or Rescue knowing that if I hit it sweet I'll still get an 90% chance of a half decent lie with a 9i or less in my hand.   The worst that can happen to me is to end up on the path.

I've now seen several similar photos and for many years the whole front of the green and path area played as a bunker with lots of footprints and cart tracks through it.  To play it I'd have to ensure laying  up to at least 150 yards and it being the first of the day it would probably be more.

Since I discovered the photo’s, I have wondeedr.

How about this one?  (might need to click on the image to enlarge).

Would this be a continuation of Ferry Road and lie in front of the 2nd green?

Thats the continuation of Fidra Road that is now the cut across to the beach.  There is an actual path from Fidra Road about 60 yards in front of the box tees on 17 and then its just an informal "follow the ridge" type of right of way to the beach across the 2nd fairway and behind the 3rd tee as your picture shows.

Even as recently as 10 years ago you would always lay up of the path on the 1st as the grass was very broken up and sandy.  Now you generally get a good lie down there so people just whack away.  I still lay up well back from the path to get a good lie and a good view of the pin.
