Ron,

Kingsley #2.  Time for a road trip!

I know Jud.  I miss Kingsley terribly.  It's a great short par 3 hole where the player will do well to make a five if they miss the green on their tee ball.

Kingsley 2 just might be one of the most over-looked/under-appreciated holes that I've ever played.  It is simply fantastic.

I agree Mac.  I think the golf course as  a whole is under-appreciated.

#17 at DMk's Huntsman Springs is a beauty. At 125 ish it tests ones finesse and courage, with all sorts of fun.

My favorite stretched to 132 yesterday (to a back right pin), but the wind required two extra clubs.

Here are the best ones that come off the top of my head that have not been mentioned....

6 NGLA
16 Paraparaumu Beach
14 Royal Melbourne West
12 Dormie Club
10 Kingston Heath

14 at RMW is a par 4. You mean 13? Or 5 or 7?

I'll say Commonwealth 9 and Kingston Heath 15.

8th at Manufacturers' - over a deep quarry

13th at Merion

17th at Columbia Edgewater

15th at Eastward Ho! - but I think it's a little too long to qualify as a short, since it's longer than 132yds  ;)

Typo on RM West, it's 13... although you could include 7 West too as well as 13 East.

I think that 130 yards, for a healthy, middle-aged dude, is no more than a 8-iron on a given day. Could be a wedge or a 9, depending on jacked-up lofts.

I'd be willing to drop the max distance another 7 yards, from 132 to 125. That should get it into the 9-iron-max range. The idea is, you step up to the tee and think that you are about to hit a pitch shot and that there is no way you should miss the green.

I did mention the hole at Dormie in the initial post, but my allusion was brief and uninspired (since I didn't get to play the hole.) This is the type of hole that I love on a golf course. If you give me a challenging pitch par three and an inspired short par four, I'm one-ninth of the way to bliss.

Toss in a par five that guarantees me an eagle (are there any of those?) and I'm giddy.

Was just out at LuLu again yesterday.  I love the 4th hole, 112 yards from the tips, 95 from the regular tees.  Here is a picture from late last year:

I love the 4th at Lulu.  Its an all or nothing shot with a mere wedge in your hand.

Shameless self promotion, but this is me playing the 8th hole at my family owned course.

The hole is 106 yards from the tips slightly uphill to a tiny green. Coming down the stretch in club championship, it can make for a great test of nerves, especially when the wind is up.

In the last fortnight, 3 of our members have aced it, jammy sods!

No love for the Postage Stamp?

Above, I rated 13 at The Glen as my favorite.  As a golf tourist from the USA, I've played the Postage Stamp only once.  I was certainly excited to get to play it.  Not only that, but the day we played the wind was coming in from about 10:00, fairly strong.  I did almost everything right (unusual), and still got in trouble.  I would put it down as number 2 of my list of short par 3 favorites, but I stopped above at my first.  I would agree it is a great short hole, and could not question anyone who would put it as their favorite.  All that having been said, for me it was the highlight of Royal Troon.  Overall, RTGC it is not near the top of my UK favorite course list.
