..but I got the first of some running commentary about a course I work at, up on YouTube

there's six other parts, this one links to Part 2 about the dratted peripheral trees which hector so many shots.

Vinnie,

Is there supposed to be audio?
There wasn't any when I watched.

VK- Agee wholeheartedly with your analysis. Certainly a litany of reasons for removal and very little/nothing in the way of rationale for keeping the trees you identified.

MB,

there is audio...perhaps an overlooked mute or volume control on your end?

Thanks.
Only #'s 3 & 4 have audio, for me.

Well done.  On the ones I can hear.  :)

I am sending your video #2 to our golf committee and greenkeeper. We have "that" pine tree on at least half of our holes.

From years of experience, your Superintendent already knows "that" tree shouldn't be there. It's the GC who either doesn't know or just doesn't care.

VK,come down to my place and you can Youtube about 2500 pine trees which are "protected" by a handful of tree-loving members. To them,a rational discussion about the improved turf or non-strategic value of the trees is a waste of time. They like trees--end of discussion.

JME,

Actually Brae Burn is at a different point in their story...you should've seen the place in the 80s - 00s (I allude to it in the vid) the holes were literally encased in conifers and hemlock plots.  But recently though, through storm events, committee planning and one person's controversial winter cutting...the course is evolving into something much better and much more civil than it was.  These videos are more of a "consolidation" of things exchanged with a few individuals who feel similarly; who want to herald, but not rest on, the successes of the last few years and keep the club vigilant that there is plenty more to do.

Brae Burn is a course that has taken a long time to ripen, but it is very close to reaching maturity.  These videos are just to add a little breeze at their backs.

VK, I've looked at four of your videos so far (sound came through on all of them just fine), and will get to the other two soon.  The are not at all boring to me.  Question.  In one of them, as I understand it (correct me if I am wrong), you are commenting about trees and bushes around a pond, and suggesting that they be removed, which would open up vistas, and replaced with some sort of annual and perennial flowers for a "country club look."  Out of curiosity, and because I'm not quite sure what a "country club look" is, are you thinking more toward a semi-formal flower layout, or a more casual, wild, natural growth look?

CJ,

My commentary might be confusing.

Actually, what I was referencing was that just three years ago, the club took down seven huge trees which were between that Par 3 (the 5th) and the 2nd fairway.  Now the view is opened up (and it looks great from so many different vistas on the course); but the far left side of that hole is now in the eye.  And my idea is that because it is now such a premium, "signature" look...that side needs some rehabilitation.

I'm no botanist nor green thumb, but the club has many other fine flower displays on the grounds; and a colorful annual/perennial kind of similar treatment along that side would be eye-popping, imo.

That "side" of the hole is rarely traversed and is not in play; this is purely an idea for visual presentation now that it has gained such a magnetic, central, signature place in one's experience of a day of Golf at BB.  Great hole...all should look at it on Google Earth, a short par 3 over water that whose tee is an old railroad bed and is about 80-90 yards in width...123 from far left...160 from all the way right.

cheers

Got it.  I did figure it out on the Google Map satelite view.  Toggling back and forth between your video and commentary and the Google satelite view was useful.
