my bad

here you go

1. Nanea
2. Kapulua
3.  Club at Hokuli
4. Prince Course
5.  Kukio
6.  Mauna Kea
7.  Challenge at Manele
8. Hualalai (Keolu)
9. Experience at Koele
10.  Makai
11.  Koolau
12.  Turtle Bay
13.  Poipu Bay
14.  Wailea
15.  Hallalai

Shocked that Makai course is this high.   Everything else smells rights (Wailea is probably a bit low;  I'd put Kauai Lagoon over Poipu).   Same comment about Kukui'ula

For all you Chicagoans why is there no mention of Glen View?   Site of the 1904 U.S. Open,  I thought it was a wonderful course
and very enjoyable.  Certainly there is no comparison to the likes of Cantigny and Kemper Lakes.

There's no good reason for it.  Like Jud, it makes my list.  GD is pretty into "resistance to scoring" and Glen View is light in that aspect.  But as a neat and fun place to play, it's wonderful.  I recently heard that of the better amateurs in Illinois just joined there even though he belonged to a club with what almost everybody would consider a more difficult course from his (ie, back) tees, so make of that what you will.

In the terms discussed above, how does Old Elm not get a mention?

Joe,

Write a letter to your Golf Digest editor.  Any Illinois list which claims 6 courses above Shoreacres should be taken with a salt mine.  Old Elm clearly belongs over the likes of Merit Club.  Unfortunately it surely falls short in the precious resistance to scoring category.

If any of the members at Old Elm gave one crap about how they came out in the GD rankings, they'd buy the magazine.

The two courses which stand out to me are The Bear and The Point.  Both are bloated designs which offer little creativity.

I know I say this a lot, but I am still pleased Gailes is hangin' in there.  This course should be recognized as one of the starters for the so called renaissance of late.  I am always disappointed not to see UofM recognized, but its expected.  I must say, much of this list doesn't impress me.  I am not saying these aren't the best in Michigan, just that about half of them don't interest me.

Sean, Michigan has some excellent courses but the drop off is pretty noticeable.  For as many courses as they have the quality isn't what it could be.

The Florida list has 30 courses, I'm surprised that Mountain Lake is not among them.  Not enough views?

I'm puzzled by many of the rankings.

I know that the magazines have set criteria, thus I have to wonder how the panelist weight those criteria,
Or do certain aspects spring out to them while others remain unrevealed ?

It's a mystery to me

6600 yard courses with a 126 slope don't impress these jokers.

Don't you guys subscribe to the magazine?  Or live near a newsstand?

I can understand the excitement to see the list when they first release it and it's not on newsstands yet.  But asking for the listing of this state or that several days after the magazine has been delivered?

Why buy a magazine when someone will post it here? That's thinking outside the box.

Tommy

Unfortunately, Michigan's golf boom coincided with housing development golf and the so called idea of championship golf.  Where Michigan is exceptional is at the lower end of the spectrum.  The state has a ton of good courses for very reasonable green fees.
