I'm gathering that this game can be played only on Xbox 360?

I'm ignorant of video games in general. I have an old Nicklaus game for Macs that allowed you to design your own course (and had a nifty version of Augusta going until the computer blew up), but haven't even installed it in my current Mac.

A very good friend of mine has an original copy of the first Masters Tournament Program, complete with hole drawings.  It's amazing the transformation the holes have undergone.  It would be cool to see the course with the original style of bunkering in quality graphics.

Thanks. So I'll either have to buy one of those two (and I would lean toward PS3 because I understand it plays Blu-Ray discs), or use the available screen shots and pull out the old Nicklaus game disc, put it on my Mac, and draw the course up myself to go back in the ANGC time machine.

If AN gave full support to this project, is it worth wondering if the leadership there might be viewing it as something of a trial balloon for the possible restoration of at least some original features?

There's likely no way to do anything here but speculate about it, but if the Pinehurst restoration fares well on the national stage (teevee) and this new/old version of Augusta is intriguing enough... ??

Just a thought...

I wish that to be true...but probably too much wishful thinking. I would love to see #9 green returned to original form

I get the feeling that it may be. I said in another thread that ANGC has followed every design trend since its inception, from the large ponds that were popular from RTJ to the framing school that has been popularized by Fazio. The current era of design is the only one that has not been followed (and obviously restorations have played a big role in this era). Perhaps they are considering it and this is testing the waters. I doubt it, but if anyone had the money and resources to do such a project, its Augusta National.

The biggest obstacle is the Masters, and if they were to return the course to its original form, on a soft day, the course would probably be a cakewalk for the pros.

I picked this up last and and wanted to say that AGNC circa 1934 seems to be incredibly well done.  It was really jarring to play it in the original routing - teeing of on current day #10.  The greens and surroundings seem to be very well done and just really cool to see it all.

The physics on the old time clubs are a little off, but overall it was really cool to see that original course.

In my ignorance, can one buy the game and play it in a regular dvd player/ or lap top for the graphics alone, but not be able to play the game?

Jeepers for years Ive held off from buying one of those console thingies. Might have to now. That looks awesome!

On another note. Has anyone been following Perfect Parallels golf simulator they are making? Check out the videos. The course forge tool is amazing.

MWP,

I believe you have to have an XBox 360 or Playstation to even view it.  This actually gives me a reason to get the damned thing.  The game itself is not that exciting otherwise relative to many others available.

Would love to see something like this available for the iPad too. I have the Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 12 on there and its pretty fun to play although the course detailing is nothing close to what the PS3 game or XBOX game has

I think you switched 6 and 4, which was probably just a typo given you got all the others correct by my estimation!

All of the above are wrong because you have the front 9 and back 9 flopped.  ;)

A front left pin on the old 13th would be remarkable!  And a front pin on either side of the boomerang 9th would give pros fits!  Talk about a good way to defend par!

Not a typo: I was sure those two holes were 4 and 6, but didn't know which was which.  Is 6 then Mac's version of the Redan?  He described one as the Redan and the other as the Eden, in his notes about the course from 1933/34 or so.

The 18th green today looks a lot more pushed up on the left side than in Tiger's game.  Is that right?

16 looks really cool, though on the face of it, similar to 12.  The bunkers on the left seem out of play though.  Same with the bunker on 12 behind the green.

Did ANGC really look like this back then?

To say it simply, yes. Using a combination of pictures and other things provided by ANGC and what the course is like now, they determined what it looks like in the game. It is very cool.
