Cabot Links Chosen Best New Course in Canada for 2012
« on: November 21, 2012, 06:59:20 PM »
Congrats to Ben and Mike, Score Golf Magazine has chosen the Inverness links course as the best new course that opened in 2012 in Canada. Story here: http://scoregolf.com/articles/news/2012/november/canadas-best-new-course
Robert Thompson also had a story on his website: http://canadiangolfer.com/g4g/2012/11/21/shocking-cabot-links-is-canadas-best-new-but-where-does-it-rank-in-canada/
Thompson golf holes were created to look as if they had always been there and were always meant to be there.

There might have been more new courses opened in Canada than in America this year.

I think you may be correct with that statement Tom!

I think Cabot would have won any year from 1990 on.

With every golf development bubble, the end was unexpected and brutal....

Ian,

A new course opened in the Lower Mainland, called Pagoda Ridge.  I know very little about it.  It will likely count as "new" next year.  I know of nothing else in BC.  I think things are still happening at Union Bay but can't really tell.

Ian,
I'm not sure a true links golf course would have been as appreciated by the voters in 1991.
As good as it is (and while it may in fact be the best course on that list), they had some strong supporters/backers whose association would've been less relevant in 1991.
There wasn't a lot of US/ Canadian links golf travel to the UK/Ireland in the 1980's, and I'm not sure many would've appreciated the course and its rugged linkslike conditions in 1991

Pagoda Ridge:What you see is a guard house in the Great Wall, behind the 14th green.Opened aug.1st to 200 golfers a day untill end of oct.when van.rains began.Very little marketing,it seems to have sold itself.Woodland golf were constructors, and I believe Scott W. posted pics on facebook.Quirky?yes, interesting, yes and well worth a play if you are in Vancouver
