Tom, it also sounds like a brutal walk to get out of it after playing those two holes!

Bill, is that a before/after pic?  The quarry looks more daunting in the second picture.

Not before an after pictures. I think it is just a slightly different angle in the second picture. Here is the before photo:

And closer look at the after

Bill,
it looks like they have cleaned the vegetation a way in the second photo rather than it being just a different angle.

Maybe they cleaned it up, but I think the second photo was taken later in the year and the vegetation has died out a bit.

Dont have a photograph but the redan at Rock Spring (Banks) is pretty cool over the quarry.  Its hole #3.  Maybe someone can post a picture

From the recent "Most Intimidating Par 3s" thread:

Curley/Gil Morgan- Oak Quarry GC, Ca., #14

Jim,

Thanks for posting that picture.
Its certainly one of the most underated redans i can think of.

New Castle in western PA incorporates a quarry very nicely.

I wish I could download a photo of the 4th at Gulph Mills as an example.
Joe Bausch, do you have it in your collection?
Next time in Philly I must make it over to Lu Lu, having never been there before.  I believe Brian Colbert said that it reminds him very much of GMGC.

While the quarry is nice on #4 it makes #7 a great short par 5.

Does anyone have pictures of holes 2 and 3 at Moselem Springs CC in PA?  Although the fairway on hole 2 has seemed to drift away from the quarry a bit, it is very evident on the par 3 third hole which also features a wild green.

Wyndance in the village of Goodwood north of Toronto is built around a large open pit gravel quarry.  Here are some "quarry" holes.  Thanks to the peripatetic Mark Saltzman for the pictures, they are better than mine.

The par four 2nd.

The par three 8th.

The par three 12th.

The par five 18th.

Ally - those (7) quarry holes at Cork GC (6-11 + 13) are really exciting to play and what about the Smurfit Course's 7th in Ireland? Did anybody mention Black Diamond Ranch in Florida - some amazing quarry holes on that stretch too but maybe the best quarry hole of them all is No. 17 at Schloss Langenstein in Germany. Check out the website and you might get a glimpse of it.

My advanced posting functions on this site have been messed up for quite a while, or I would post some of my Quarry photos.  Compared to some, we left the quarry look a lot more rugged.

Would also note there is a very fine Keith Foster course in San Antonio called the Quarry, where the back nine is set among old rock ledges similar to the Wyndance photos above.

Many talk about the quarry par 3 8th hole at Manufacturers ("Mannies") here in Philly (very close to LuLu), but there is hole at Mannies utilizing the quarry, the dogleg right par 4 16th, with the feature coming into play on a wayward 2nd.

Wow, that is a neat looking hole. Are the slopes around the green kept low enough for the ball to bounce down or do you end up with a lot of hanging lies up on the slopes if you miss?

Heritage Bluffs - Channahon, IL (Dick Nugent)

The course sits on the former site of a gravel/sand pit. In many instances the spoils were grassed over and used as mounds. The 18th is shown below:

Here are some pics of the par 4 7th, again with the spoil mounds.
