Difference between God and a Golf Course Architect?
« on: November 05, 2012, 09:03:00 AM »
Heard a good one today.

What is the difference between God and a Golf Course Architect?

God does not think he is a Golf Course Architect. :-*

Reminds me of the old "Superfans" skit from Saturday Night Live.

Leader: "A terd course at Dismal River is being considered, who could come up wit a better routing...Doak....or God??"

Rest of group "hmmm....errrr...."

Leader: "Trick question...Doak IS God"

Well, their approaches to China seem pretty different

I don't think God ever lost a job to a former PGA tour pro

And, except for Pete Dye maybe, I can't think another Uncaused Cause

That's about it.

Maybe we can get Tiger to start yelling "Doak dammit" when he hits a poor shot. I know I will from now on.

Pete

Are you positing Mr Dye is the only "Prime Mover" out there?

I would nominate a trilogy
"Golf is happiness. It's intoxication w/o the hangover; stimulation w/o the pills. It's price is high yet its rewards are richer. Some say its a boys pastime but it builds men. It cleanses the mind/rejuvenates the body. It is these things and many more for those of us who truly love it." M.Norman

Ward - I think even trinitarians posit an Uncaused Cause (say Anslem, for example). But I can't go on with the analogy or else I'd risk being sacrilegious....

Hope all is well

God moves less dirt?

God cares about average golfers?

God knows what a player is thinking on every shot?

God gets paid less?

God knows what lives in the bottom of the quarry on the 16th at Merion?

tee hee...

God really does believe that par is irrelevant

God sees a big difference between renovations and restorations

God's associates actually do much of the work...oh, wait - never mind that one

two Golf Course Architects were talking with God. They claimed that they could build a better golf course. God said that he could do better, from scratch. Then God asked them to show him some of their ideas, and the GCAs started to draw something on the ground.
God spoke, "get your own dirt."

No Peter, God understands that par IS relevant.

But like transubstantiation, he's not about to tell us how it works.

God looked at His work and said: "It is good."

A golf course architect looks at his work and says: "It is ..."

(a) "... perfect"?
(b) "... good"?
(c) "... good enough"?
(d) "... my best work yet -- which is really no surprise, since I have never worked on a finer piece of land, and I feel blessed that ______________ gave me such a wonderful opportunity to findl the wonderful golf holes that have been here since time immemorial, just waiting to be revealed"?

ha ha, good ones Bob and Dan.

All this reminds me yet again of the Brooks-Reiner "2000 Year Old Man" skits, e.g.

"In 2000 years you must've met a lot of people..."
"Oh, I've met everyone"
"Can you tell us who...."
"Well, I met Julius Caeser, I met Moses, I met Joan of Arc..."
"You knew Joan of Arc?"
"Knew her? I went with her!"

If only Obama were a golf architect....
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

God moves less dirt?

False.

God cares about average golfers?

False.

God knows what a player is thinking on every shot?

True.

God gets paid less?

True.

God knows what lives in the bottom of the quarry on the 16th at Merion?

Only because God spends a lot of time there.

Golf course architects work within the constraints of a Master Plan.

God wrote THE Master Plan.

(Let's hope the architects have better luck than God!)
