This is Wilmslow Common to which we take the dogs most days. It is less than a mile from our house. Excitingly, they are removing many trees to encourage the heather to re-establish more extensively. You could get three or four holes on the land – but it is heavily protected.

You could cross a minor residential road, down a track or two (quarter of a mile) and there is this extensive peat bog. It, too, of course, is highly protected but you could get some fairly unusual holes on this land , the surrounding birch woodlands and a few neighbouring fields (plenty enough for 18 full-length holes in total). Has a golf course ever been built on a peat bog? Moortown comes to mind, but I’m not sure it was peat.
