LaQuinta Mountain (Pete Dye) - several dozen pictures
« on: June 08, 2012, 12:32:04 AM »
In early May my wife and I traveled to California and had the pleasure of golfing at Pacific Grove, Pasatiempo, San Juan Oaks, Monarch Dunes, Sandpiper, Oak Quarry, Desert Willow-Firecliff, and LaQuinta Mountain.

LaQuinta Mountain was the last course played on our trip. Designed by Pete Dye, the course is one of five at the LaQuinta resort complex in Palm Desert.

Yardages are 4,875/5,330/5,768/6,300/6,732. All yardages posted here are from the 6,732 tees.

Opening tee shot, par-4 of 368 yards. The green is above the far end of the long fairway bunker.

Approach on #1

Second hole, a long par-3 along the water's edge, 205 yards

Tee shot on #3, 395 yards par-4

Approach on #3

Looking back on #3

Hole #4, par-5 508 yards. The hole curls around the ridge on the left.

10th hole, par-4 372 yards, into the residential area...

10th fairway

11th hole, par-4 398 yards

#12, 373 yards par-4

12th fairway

Par-3 13th, 183 yards

14th tee, par-4 389 yards. There is a camera mounted behind the back tee for those who want their picture taken standing in front of this hole. I really enjoyed this part of the course ... holes 14, 15, 16, and 17. It got away from the residential area and was quite dramatic, tucked up closely against the mountain backdrop.

14th fairway

Looking back on 14

15th hole, 517 yards par-5

15th fairway. The green is tucked around the corner past the bunker, and behind the ridge on the right.

Approach on 15

Behind the 15th green

Looking back on 15

16th hole, 167 yards par-3, island green amongst the rocks and rattlers

Closer look at the 16th green

17th tee, 446 yards par-4

Approach on 17

Looking back on 17

18th tee, 524 yards par-5. This area seemed completely out of character with the rest of the golf course.

Approach to the 18th green

Cheers,
Jim

I used to think this course was the absolute bees knees. I dunno. It's good, and a couple of the mountain holes are pretty cool, but looking at holes like 3, 8-12, 18...meh?

The mountainside stuff looks interesting.

Those palm trees need to go.
