Love him or hate him there is nobody out there with more insight about the golf course. It would be great to hear offer up some dialogue about the architectural changes over the years and more specifically since the last open.

Tim,

Fair enough, he is a love or hate guy....

But I'm really curious what you saw in that article that provided insight?  Looked like more of the same Johnny "I want all the attention" Babble to me.

Can the Lake Course still be described as "tree-lined"?

Huh? Judging from his quotes, he only spoke of other players and never once inserted himself as "one of the greats."

I was referring to Johnny feeling the need to weigh in on every player and tourney in the sport.....

He always forgets that as an announcer he's paid to enhance the broadcast, not try to be the reason why people are tuning in to watch the broadcast.

My point is that no one is more familiar with the golf course and it's evolution over the last 40 plus years. The guys knows every blade of grass out there. If you know someone that knows it better now is the time to clue us in.

Unless he played there the other day, he hasn't played Olympic since 1997 (Shell's match against Nicklaus), and his previous time out there was 1987 when he went 71-77 to miss the cut.  He was a junior member out there in the early 60's and stopped being a regular in the late 60's.  So over the past 40 years he hasn't been out there much.

I'd bet the house on several guys in the tree house, including David Tepper!!  ;D

Kevin is correct, Miller hasn't been out there in ages except for maybe a corporate event.  In all fairness to Miller, I don't even think he plays anymore.

If you read the article, Miller had no comments regarding the changes to the course. The complete article talks about Tiger and Phils chances and his choice is Jason Duffner.

Guys-I am throwing up the white flag with the caveat that as announcers go he has a pretty good perspective. As far as people knowing every move that Johnny makes and when the last time he was out there either to play or check out the holes is pretty Kreskin like.

Members at Scioto could tell you the last time that Nicklaus was there. I'm sure that the members at Olympic would have a pretty good idea about the last time Miller was there.

Johnny makes it sound like he discovered the reverse canter fairways. lol lol You have to love it. Well at least he is the first to bring them up for this US Open.

Thankfully there will be no grain on the greens, but I'm sure he'll find some fall lines to talk about, and maybe some trap draws off the 4th tee or going draws off the 16th.  Right Rog?

That round had a great impact on Oakmont. His round induced a number of changes, and many have since been chopped down. I've got the article (Golf Magazine I believe) where a group of members are standing with a sign that stated no more 63's... and had their solutions illustrated on it.

I haven't listened to Miller in years, but liked the fact he spoke his mind.
