A second for Lord Howe Island. Virtually all of Asia at that time will be hot and miserable indoors and out. With the exception of Hokkaido, avoid Japan at all costs as Setsuden is in effect.

Maybe some courses up in Korean mountains or on Jeju Island ok.

As far as "far afield" goes, when's the last time you visited ZA?

How about checking out Bill Coore's work at Klub Rimba Irian in Kuala Kencana, Indonesia?  A little off the beaten path, but what the hell? Never been there, and who knows what kind of shape it's in, but at the very least it would be an interesting adventure...

Thank you for all the suggestions.  I had looked into the Himalayan Golf Club in Nepal -- it is on my bucket list -- but they are just entering the rainy season.  Thought of Yas Links, too, but 47 C is not my cup of tea.

I didn't think of Vietnam, and I definitely want to get there someday, although that is one place my wife has said she'd like to travel with me.  Same for Tibet.

Unfortunately, this exercise was all for naught ... the potential client in the Philippines rearranged things so he could spend a day with me and have someone else tour me around the site!  But I appreciate all the suggestions, as I will be making several more trips between these two spots over the next year.

PS to Jud:  You haven't heard the story Bill Coore tells about the death adder in Indonesia.  I have a bucket list, but not a "ways I want to kick the bucket" list.

That's exactly what I would have suggested.  There are not many places in Asia (or the world for that matter) that top the majesty of
Angkor Wat.  And the Cambodian people really are amazing.

Tom, where is the site in the Philippines?   I played Wack Wack in 1966, in Manila, also Subic Bay on the navy base.   The highlight, mostly because it was so cool up there, was at Baguio, the summer capital that's in the highlands north of Manila.   It was quite an experience.   One fairway was as steep as the first at Painswick, maybe steeper, as it had three terraces so tee shots would stay put, and a rope tow!   Luckily the barefoot caddies were lugging your bag.   I loved the Philippines, the people are very sweet and friendly.
