Playing there over the next several days in the Macbeth. Really looking forward to it. Have heard they re-did all the bunkers. One of the members I talked to at the Kelly Cup said that some people love 'em and some ... not so much ....
What's the prevailing wisdom on GCA???

I don't think it's completely done so the verdict isn't in. What Kyle has done there is superb. Recently they just regrassed the fairways which should make for very nice turf conditions. They still need to take out a few more trees and then restore the barranca which for some reason they are dragging their feet on.

Chris, those are great pictures. I have only seen the ones in the clubhouse. From where did you get those?

It must be kept in mind that the elusive charm of the game suffers as soon as any successful method of standardization is allowed to creep in. A golf course should never pretend to be, nor is intended to be, an infallible tribunal.

Lynn, I find a lot of vintage photos at the very great LA84 Foundation. Just type in the name of the course or person you are looking for and click the American Golfer and Golf Illustrated buttons to the right and voila.
Here is the link to their search page:
http://search.la84foundation.org/search?site=default_collection&client=default_frontend&output=xml_no_dtd&proxystylesheet=default_frontend&proxycustom=%3CHOME/%3E
Here is the link to one of the pages I used:
http://www.la84foundation.org/SportsLibrary/AmericanGolfer/1932/ag354w.pdf
I don't think I bookmarked any of the other pages I got photos from but they are on there - with some interesting writing as well.
By the way, some of my earliest memories are of watching late 1960's basketball. My dad (who graduated from UNC) was a pretty calm guy but boy did he get into those games. I don't think he was entirely pleased with the way you guys man handled the Tar Heels in the championship game in '68!
It must have been an incredible experience playing on those teams under the ultra great John Wooden.

David, hope you're well....sounds like the "Champagne Tour" is treating you well
Here are a couple of threads on Wilshire; one with photos of the "old" course, the other with a few of the "new" course. I find the new bunkering comical to look at, but the course now plays far better which is most important.

Lynn, contact Tommy, he has an absurd amount of Wilshire photos.

I'm anxious to get out to LA to play the North, which Mike Keiser absolutely raves about (says he likes it better than SFGC), but I'm just as keen to tee it up at Wilshire, one of my favorite courses anywhere.
