5th Major Travel Plans Thread
« on: May 16, 2012, 09:04:17 PM »
I know those of us traveling out to Dismal River for the 5th Major are pumped.  I'm trying to make my travel plans now (I know, a bit late, but better late than never).  I was talking with Eric today, and with so many guys traveling in, it's hard to keep up with everyone's comings and goings.

So, let's use this thread to coordinate travel plans, share rides, etc.

As for me, I will be arriving in Denver either Weds or Thurs around noon.  I plan to fly out of Denver either late Sunday nite (like midnight) or early Monday morning.  I'd love to split a rental car with someone (or with two groups - one coming and one going).

Feel free to post questions on this thread, or PM me.

Anyone coming in from the east?  I'm coming in via I-80 from Iowa City, which was about a 9 hour drive when I did the 5th major trip last year.  Maybe someone is coming from Chicago and wants some help with the driving and gas?
My hovercraft is full of eels.

Sunday before I am driving up to Dallas to play Dallas National. On Monday I'm probably going to play Old American and then drive up and play Jimmie Austin at OU. On Tuesday I'm playing Flint Hills National and Prairie Dunes. Wednesday/Thursday I'm going to play a combination of Awarii Dunes, Sand Hills, and Prairie Club and will get to Dismal Thursday afternoon. Sunday I plan on playing Dismal in the morning and a group of us are going to play Wild Horse that afternoon.

For those of you who have yet to experience Wild Horse, you will not be disappointed.  It's that good.  The people are incredible as well.  Which is something you will find as you travel throughout Nebraska, the people are pretty special.

I'm looking forward to it, I've heard people say it's nothing special because it's a boring piece of land, looks cool as hell with what they had to work with.

I look forward to hearing the thoughts from those who play it.  If you get the chance, talk to some of the locals who poured their hearts and souls into the construction.  It is inspiring, to say the least.  We take a group of 16-20 guys every June, and its our favorite stop.

If you're driving from the east, I recommend NE-2 from Grand Island through the Sand Hills to Mullen.

Glad to learn that Will's travel plans were ironed out thanks to the GCA rapid responders. ;D

I'm doing something different this trip and taking the plane from Denver to North Platte. I Imagine it's a pretty cool flight and it only takes an hour to get there. Then 85 miles to Dismal, which would be an hour as well if Kavanaugh was driving.

We may have enough for two twosome at Wild Horse on Sunday afternoon.

Who else is pretty sure they are wanting to play it  besides Sam and I?

A shout out to the gang as the big event draws near! I'm trying to get that final round in at Dismal on Sunday and have an EARLY ride back to Denver with my cohort Ted Cahill at present, who has a noonish flight out that day. I would LOVE to catch a ride with someone later that day if possible, who is heading to Denver as well that afternoon and would schedule a later flight out Sunday night were that possible. Kindly let me know if you have a spot.

Cheers,
Kris

My buddy and I are planning on driving up Wednesday night and playing Wildhorse all day Thursday unless we make a trip over to Bayside. Probably headed home Sunday afternoon.

Question for all you guys coming out:

Who plans on staying overnight at Dismal on nights other than Friday night and Saturday night?

If you would please email me eric@5thmajor.com to let me know I would really appreciate it! The sooner the better - as they kinda need to know out there and I haven't kept up with this particular detail all that well.

Thanks!

I would appreciate it if you would spend more time planning this thing and not texting me from the course.

BTW, I'm still 3 up

What is the 5th Major?
I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Excellent spellers usually lack any vision or common sense.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.
