New Picture On Front Page
« on: May 03, 2012, 12:32:50 PM »
I love the new picture on the front page with the Mackenzies. I love mine so much I love to see pictures of others, I figured the GCA one is Ran and the Cabot one is Ben, I'd like to know who has the Miura bag and other bag.

I love the pictures of the MacKenzie's on the front page. I've been using my MacKenzie for about 6 weeks now and have put about ~15 rounds in with it on my shoulder and I have to say that it only gets better with each round!

Can you get Mackenzie bag's with stands? or something similar?

Brian,

Putting a stand on a MacKenzie is like paining a mustache on the Mona Lisa. It just isn't right.

What about the constant putting down and picking up - doesn't that get old? Sorry if these words are sacrilege!

Not really. Unless you have issues trying to touch your toes. :) ;)

Brian,

Those with MacKenzies don't actually play golf with them. They just carry around clubs as they walk the course to feel the architecture...Stand not needed. ;)

hahaha, love the pic as well  ;D

Funniest thin I've seen was my buddy with his new Mackenzie bag on a push cartm, LOL.

Brian,

I only use a stand bag when I'm playing a wet/muddy parkland course. (my home course in winter/spring)

FWIW, the best bag for Bandon is w/o a stand due to the wind and there is no mud year round.

As to putting down/picking up, the strap is long and putting it down is easy, and since it's light picking up is easy.

P,

The new cordura style is OK to get wet.

Thanks

I was playing with Ran at BUDA last year and he was carrying a CABOT Mackenzie bag! so it might be the other way round :)

I bought a second strap and hooked up so that I can carry it on both shoulders. It works well.

My Mac has gotten a fine hue from the cart strap gently rubbing against its side as I enjoy masquerading as a golfer.  Unlike most carry bags it has a strong spine that makes ingress and egress of club selection as easy as any tour bag.

At $250.00 I can see the functionality of the rip- stop cordura Mackenzie, but not the leather version at $795.00.

Take the $545.00 you saved and buy a dozen Ping Moon bags for your high school golf team. Encourage them to remain walkers.

I've considered a MacKenzie bag a few times, but each time those thoughts take hold, I consider that with that $800, I could fly down to Tasmania and spend three days at Barnbougle, or head down for a long weekend on the sandbelt and Mornington.

Still no MacKenzie bag, but it does help me justify going on golf trips!

I actually think the picture is a low point in the history of this site.  I always love to see the cover photo on this site as it normally introduces a new and interesting aspect of golf course architecture.  The pictures are very inspirational.  Despite the tenuous link in the caption, the current picture has nothing to do with golf course architecture.  Sure the bags are nice, but if golf course architecture is about owning a $600 old school golf bag then I am not that interested in golf course architecture.

I love that picture too.  Golf is a walking game.  I can't imagine playing it any other way.   ;)

Goodness.  A picture of a few golf bags and you consider it a low point in the history of this site.  Don't you think that I bit much. Relax man. This is a fun site and if you don't agree with something you are allowed not to respond and ruin it for others.  Posts like yours are the low points in GCA.

The bag has never given me a problem on a wet morning, I don't use it for all my rounds but have loved it, I've got the ballistic nylon version and couldn't be happier.

Is this really the way this website supposed to work?  If we don't agree with something we are allowed not to respond?   And here I thought it was the other way around.

I think it a pretty picture but . . . well when looking for hickories one sometimes sees the distinction between "playable" clubs or "collectable clubs." If there exists a similar distinction for golf bags I'd lean toward putting the $800 leather single strap bag in the latter category.   I cringe to think of the appearance of one of those bags after a year of early morning rounds at Rustic Canyon.

I love my MacKenzie because it's different from all others.  I love it because people ask me about it and I get to tell them about Todd Rohrer and his merry band of artisans in Portland.  I love it because I can tell them the story of my grandfather's golf bag.  I love it because of where I was when I ordered it, and where I was the day I received it.  I love it because it fits everything I need and nothing I don't.  I love it because it carries beautifully, looks out of place on a cart (though it has certainly been on one), and looks better the dirtier it gets.

If all of that makes me a luddite or a hipster, so be it.  I really don't care.  It's guaranteed for life and hopefully it's the last bag I'll ever buy.

If having a few old school bags on the home page is the worst thing that's ever happened on this site, then you need to do your research.  No one is peddling anything.  Go read some Merion threads, then you'll feel a lot lower than you did after looking at some golf bags.

Thanks for your post Tommy.  Not really sure what to make of it and definitely don't want to make a mountain out of a molehill so I will let it slide.
