Trump National - Charlotte
« on: March 30, 2012, 06:12:20 AM »
Trump - Charlotte is born.  He is buying The Point, a Norman design, for $3mm.  I've not played it so perhaps some of my Queen City brethren can weigh in.

I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Excellent spellers usually lack any vision or common sense.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.

JC-I'm not a native, but a friend's parents have a house there.  It's a really, really nice community.  Golf course, played it once in May of 2007, I can remember some holes in my mind, weaving back and forth around parts of the lake.

Mostly a parkland design, with clean features, it didn't strike me as a threatening sort of course.  I seem to remember thinking it was a good course for what it was, a course in a residential community were folks could play and not have their a** handed to them.  The holes on the lake were scenic and offered some risk/reward with a way around the trouble.

In other words, it's exactly the right type of golf course for this sort of market.  I don't think this was meant to be a 'player's' course, I think this was meant to be a course for an upscale development of professionals and retirees.  This is not meant as a diss.
Overall, it seemed like a really, really nice community in which to live. I'm not sure the motivation behind Trump buying it, it didn't seem like a place that needed a whole lot of work or help, but this was 5 yrs ago I was there.

Interesting.  My wifes Uncle has a house in that community.  I have never been but I would imagine it would be good for homeowners?

I'm blown away that he was able to purchase The Point for a whole 2% of what he paid for Doral.

Never played it and within my Charlotte golf "community" have heard very little about the course.  It is about 34 miles north of downtown Charlotte within the town of Mooresville, a NASCAR business hub and headquarters of Lowe's (the home improvement company), among other things.  Most of the 45 to 50 minute drive from downtown Charlotte would be on Interstate 77.  Given the apparent controversy prior to the vote, I'm somewhat surprised the Trump purchase was approved "overwhelmingly."  Google Map: The Point Lake and Golf Club Mooresville.

I don't really believe he paid 150 million for it. Do you? ( certainly not his own money)

JC,

Access whore that you are, I'm shocked that you've yet to see the greatest course in the state.

How about the  Trump Trail ?

Coast to coast, north to south.

It will be the biggest and best that anyone could ever, ever, possibly conceive.

Or something like that.
