Tequila Cup 2013
« on: March 21, 2012, 06:35:57 PM »
OK guys (and laides) I would like to gauge the interest of those here in having a GCA event here in Cabo. Let's say I can make it hassle free and reasonable affordable who would be interested?

Accommodations woould be shared condos/villas on property at Cabo del Sol. Golf would definitely include our 2 courses and the rest of the rotation would depend on what I can swing with what would seemingly be the other poreferred courses to see Diamante, Querencia and Bay of Dreams assuming it is still in operation at that time which is at best a toss up as of today. Those may be limited to a smaller group each day so the other resort/public facilities can be included as well. Cabo is not short on solid golf.

I am sure I could pressure Mr. Lipe into being my guest for the event and perhpas even talk on subjects unrelated to LSU athletics.

Any suggestions and/or questions are welcomed.

What's it like there in January?  We (two couples) went to Costa Rica to play Mike Young's Hacienda Pinilla and it was 90o!   Felt great.  If it could be couples I'd be interested for sure.

That would keep me out of trouble in the fleshpots of Cabo.   :o

I suppose we could do the first couple of weeks in January as well. The weather is always perfect. December and January woudl be highs between 78 and 85 and nice cool evenings in the high 50s to low 60s.

Great feedback on couples... that is what I was looking for. Anyone else agree that couples would work better given the locale? Could complicate the rooming a bit as the units would likely be shared 2, 3 and 4 bedroom private residences but nothing a little planning would not take care of.

If available is a full day trip up to Doak's Bay of Dreams something folks want to do? 2.5 hour bus ride each way.

Hang in there, lots of time before January.  I'm in and Kathleen even more so.   Figure a couples division and a stag division.

By the way, I think January will be great.  No GCA events then and all those Yankees looking for a Great Escape.

Greg,
I saw 2012 and thought a trip to Cabo this year would be tough. But I'd be very interested in a Jan-Mar 2013 trip. Either way, thanks very much for the invitation.

Greg,
I think my wife would kill me if I went to Cabo and Nik-San without her.
Before I was a  GCA member, we went, did one day fishing, and I played OC and Eldorado, ate 2 nights at NS.
You and I spoke since about a possible return family trip spring break but haven't been able to make that happen yet.
I think considering a couples or family option is a good idea.
January or Feburary is certainly a nice escape.
Is spring break in late march/ early April a busy time for the resort or even an option?
Then the problem would be determining when spring break for everyone falls.
What is the weather in April ? ( probably sunny and 85!)
Whether it is on this trip or in the future, I look foward to returning.

Hi Greg,

I would be interested if we get a bunch of people to make it worthwhile.

I've long had a trip with CDS, Diamante, BoD, and whatever else in mind, so you will see me eventually either way!

Upon mentioning it to my better half, she didn't even sneer at me...although I don't see her going.

Thanks,

Brad
So I jump ship in Hong Kong....

   I'm interested. I don't have a girlfriend. Don't golf. Don't drink. I do have a West virginia golf shirt.

Cabo has one of the best one two punches for the traveling golfer. Equal to others. TOC/Kingsbarns. Pac Dunes/ Bandon Dunes. Punta Espada/Teeth of the Dog. Cruden Bay/Cruden Bay. Pebble Beach/Spyglass. This trip is a must.

This does sound really good.  And if held in Jan/Feb would be even more tempting to escape the winter duldrums for a long weekend....

I would be interested, if the boss is willing to entertain the thought of another golf-related trip (Monterey coming up in July). Have always been interested in getting down to Cabo.

I am very interested.  It would need to be in January for me to be able to attend.  I would like to see more of the courses down there.

As to weather - we purportedly had bad weather when I was there over Christmas this winter.  I had to wear a sweater and shorts going out for dinner in the evening.

Actually I may be the new proprietor of Tanga Tanga by the time this woudl roll around. One of things where "I spend X there each year and it only costs me 10X to buy the place and it cash flows well"... no brainer really. We shall see if I can negotiate the right deal.

Diamante will be tricky and definitely not a "group day". I would likely have to arrnage everything through sales and have a max of 8-12 players each day who would be required to take thye sales tour (pretty interesting product to be honest).

I would also try the Señor Cowley angle and certainly ask him to join the group as well. With he and Jim Lipe on board it could make for a nice event.

Always love a good sales tour.

Likely the only option as they will have their Dunes Residence Club open and occupied by that time with plenty of folks in house.
