Atlanta GCA Get Together?
« on: March 20, 2012, 05:31:09 PM »
Last year, over a dozen of us met at Rivermont CC for an informal GCA day of golf.  It was a great day, weather and golf wise, and it was great to meet a few fellow GCA'ers.

Is there interest in another such gathering this year?    Does anyone have a venue that they recommend or could provide access for a group outing?   I am a member of Eagle Watch to the NW of town.   I would be delighted to set up an outing, it is a wonderful Arnold Palmer layout.
Maybe we can come up with a list of potential venues, and come up with a group consensus.

Let's talk it up Atlantans, and see what we can come up with!

Mac,

Anyday for me, I am flexible.    I guess it comes down to group consensus, what works for most people.

Either day can work for me.

Tuesday was the day the Chris C. blocked off Rivermont for us last time.  It is hard to beat that value at another venue.  Are you interested to see if Chris can do Rivermont again...or do you guys prefer somewhere else?

I'm 3 hours, give or take traffic, away from ATL.
If the event is on a Sunday I'm in the running.

Next question...which Sunday?

March 31st looks good, April 15th (don't forget your taxes), April 29th?

Having never played Rivermont, I would love to see it.  Although having played very little in ATL overall, pretty much any venue is one I would look forward to playing for the first time.

March 31st does not work for me.  The other dates are more doable.

Let's iron out the date and then lock in the venue.

Rivermont is on the table as I am a member there.  But we can do other places, but the price tag could get steep.

Hey Mac

It would be great to play Rivermont again, if that is the group consensus.  3/31 works for me, can't play 4/15 though.   Maybe we should plan further out this spring, so all can have advance notice and plan accordingly.  Planning these events never easy I know, someone will always be disappointed with dates  and that is inevitable.

You're hired!

I gotta hit the rack...let's do this.

Eric...pick a date.

We will then meet at Rivermont on that date for golf and beers golf architecture discussions.

At The 'mont, we will pick another place we all want to play.  And set it up...let's keep this thing going for 1 round per quarter.

How about Sunday 5/6 or Sunday 5/20?  That should be sufficient notice for most.  And if anyone wants to play the day  before, I would be most  happy to arrange rounds and evening dinner at Eagle Watch, where I am a member.  It is a wonderful Arnold Palmer layout, will not disappoint.

That is a wonderful offer Mike.  For those of you that have not played Sky Valley, it is a wonderful venue.  Another world for those of us that  live or work in the "big city".    There is a fair amount of decent motels and inns in the area, and places to eat.   Might make for a decent weekend sometime, if there was sufficient interest.   There are also some amazing golf courses a short drive away in the Highlands/Cashiers area if anyone has any connections, many of them quite private.  Something for the group to consider.

Any chance we can split the difference between 4/15 and May?  Maybe the 22nd or 29th of next month?

I would love to be in this time, as I fell out of the loop recently! Mac and Chris were (are) fantastic hosts and I understand Eagle Watch is supposed to be good as well (been years since I have played there).

Sky Valley is a treat indeed. A good travel from ATL but very good golf course. It's a lot of fun if Mike can't get you on Highlands  :D

E, There is only one PBR "Thaw Out."

Gentlemen.  Please count me in.  I am playing a four-ball on the 15th so not available that day.  I will monitor the discussion to see which day is chosen.

It sounds like Rivermont has been chosen as the host venue.  In the future, I would be happy to host at Settindown Creek or Ansley GC.
