WSJ - Private estate with 18 hole course in Northeast?
« on: March 10, 2012, 02:07:19 PM »
In the WSJ real estate section yesterday they said a private estate in the Northeast is available with a private 18 hole golf course.  You had to inquire to find out the location and details.

Anyone know where this is?

There were two available I believe, an RTJ course on Long Island and an Estate in Westchester.  Neither would force you to have to run out and change your shorts from a GCA perspective as I recall.

Edward S Gordon estate in Bridgehampton across the street from Atlantic Golf Club. I think the price was reduced from 75 million.

Article said it's on 221 acres which would rule out the Trout Pond property.  Said it's world class golf course built for a prominent American family.  "Not far from the metropolitant New York area".

Joel, there's an unnamed course on google maps between those two parks, which leads me to believe it might be the one.

Christies is being very ellusive about this property.

The rarest of offerings, this estate is distinguished by its provenance, celebrated architecture, and award-winning private golf course designed by one of the world’s most celebrated international players. Located in the vibrant Northeast region of the United States, the property’s spectacular acreage can be enjoyed as a private retreat, maintained as an exclusive members-only club, or developed for alternative uses.

I finally found a link:

the pluck of Christie's!

well, since RTJ wasn't a player, we must then consider other options.

"One of the world most celebrated international players".  Norman, Player, Faldo, etc???  The one photo they provide looks fairly modern and very well maintained.

That's not an 18 hole golf course, but a hybrid using different tees to a limited number of greens.

Yes, am aware of that, Patrick. But is still "18" holes.

However, I don't believe the estate in Bridgehampton rests on 221 acres.

I drove by there on my way to Sag Harbor last week. Are those your anemometers set up along Scuttlehole Rd next to this course and Atlantic?

What would be the 18 hole course off of (Conn. ?) highway 15 SW of Hemlock Reservoir that is not marked as a golf course on Google Earth?

Garland,

I think this is the course you were referring to... It is a public course.

That pic reminds me of TPC Jasna Polana, by Gary Player.

But tough to tell.

Yes,

However, i've disguised many others to look like trees so that you wouldn't notice them.

Two to three club wind at Seminole recently, mostly out of the East, SE and S.

The course is exponentially better in the wind, any wind, and it's almost always blowing.

The two are inextricably entwined.

in an attempt to calm my OCD sent the selling agent an email asking for some details on the golf course. Fully expecting the answer to be no and it duely was. you need to be able to buy it and sign a NDA.

i tried but to no avail.

Garland, the course just SW of that reservoir and next to the Merritt Parkway, aka CT-15, is The Patterson Club.  Private course, but not on a singular estate.  RTJ Sr.-designed.

Interested in seeing if we can put our sleuthing heads together to figure out which/where the course is.

Was Morefar originally built for one person?

It's not Morfar which is owned by AIG.  Morfar does not have an estate that the web site suggests and was not designed by a celebrated international player.
