All discussions of the best small clubhouse start and end with the Dunes Club. It's everything you need, nothing you don't.

Seems that "small" is relative or "any clubhouse smaller than Medinah."

Dunes Club's is all of 1,500 square feet -- if that.

About 30 miles east of The Dunes Club is Signal Point Club in Niles, MI.  A Robert Bruce Harris 9 holer that's got a ton of quirk and character.

The year prior to my arrival, the existing clubhouse burned down.  The membership resisted the temptation to go bigger and left the clubhouse small and very functional.  The consistent comment I received from visitors??  "God I wish our club did the same thing you guys did...."

Kilspindie  ;D

+1

Surely the shortest walk from holing out to enjoying a beverage (especially after a two-putt birdie!) in the game.

Great clubhouse and Michael, you are right about the short walk. But Kilspindie is a mansion compared to Carrbridge, Wick, Portmahomack, Fort Augustus. Best small clubhouse might be Covesea Golf Course.

Deal small?  Dornoch's in anyway interesting?  We are on totally different wavelengths.

I will go with Kington - the ultimate in functional design, yet it sets smack dab on the course wit great views from.

It's all relative Sean: Deal is small by American standards, without a doubt, but probably large by British standards.  I found Dornoch's clubhouse to be very charming.

Stopped at Covesea on Saturday before playing a couple of rounds. Bear in mind thats the new clubhouse and the old one was no bigger than agarden shed. I think I have photos somewhere....

There is a beauty at Pennhills in Bradford, Pennsylvannia.
The architect is Clifford Wendehack
The plans were originally drawn for The Park Club in Williamsville, but the clubhouse was too small.

Palmetto.    Perfecto.

Bill, what do you like about Palmetto?  I've been there only once, as a visitor.  It is definitely small, and shabby chic, which I liked, but other than the snack bar/dining area, proshop and lockerroom, it has, as I recall, one or two other nice empty rooms.  I'd say it has the potential to be a great small clubhouse, but as it was a couple of years ago, I don't see it.

fortunately they have made the decision to not have fine dining in the larger building ;D
Pro shop area is perfect and I don't think I've been in the clubhouse in 15 years.
the porch is nice for a drink (which you carry over from the snack bar)

I seem to think that under 3000 square feet is small. Many of the ones mentioned are more in the 10,000 sq foot range.

I am a big fan of Chechessee Creek. It's small, simple, the food is good and I love the rocking chairs on the porch.

The one on the right is the new one and the one on the left the Old one.

I’m nominating it for the Worst small clubhouse. Thorndon Park. ;)

A candidate for best small one can be glimpsed above the extension of the famous one below.

Downstairs, small secretaries office and changing room
Upstairs, small kitchen and Bar.
The Tantallon Club
