Best Small Clubhouse
« on: March 02, 2012, 05:42:50 PM »
I know we have done a lot of clubhouse discussions.  But, I am trying to put together a list of the best/better clubhouses that are on the small or very small size.

Right now I can come up with Friar's Head original pro shop and the Dunes Club.

Any help here?

Certainly tough to top the Dunes Club.  A good set of photos for those who haven't seen it:

I like the one at Bandon Trails. Yes, I know, how many other clubhouses over look dunes like this. I would think it is the best clubhouse of the four courses at Bandon because of its unique color and great views.

However, I am not sure it would really qualify as a clubhouse because there are no carts and therefore no cart storage area needed.

All discussions of the best small clubhouse start and end with the Dunes Club. It's everything you need, nothing you don't.

The Oakville Golf Club, near Toronto, has a nice clubhouse. It's on the opposite side of 16 Mile Creek from Glen Abbey GC. The Oakville club dates to 1921; the clubhouse is quite new (post-2000, I think), but it's a good fit and it's relatively (appropriately) small.

P.S. I remember really liking the clubhouse at Gulph Mills, too.

Here are two that are quite esoteric, and also very compact..I'm talking the size of a stately private home, and nothing more:

Agreed, If you were to look at the Bandon Trails clubhouse in isolation, it does it's job very simply and admirably.  I almost see this as an archetype for many other clubs.  In another circumstance, you could combine the food point of sale and the shop point of sale into 1 and cut down a lot of overhead on a lazy Tuesday afternoon.
The clubhouse at OM is a simple structure at the edge of the woods, with an informal gathering place at the entrance.
The clubhouse at PD understands its site by getting you upstairs to eat and enjoy the view.
