Pinehurst #7 or #8
« on: February 25, 2012, 05:01:41 PM »
Planning a trip to Pinehurst in a couple of weeks and I've never played any of the courses at the resort.  We have the option of playing #7 or #8.  We are playing #4 the day before.  If you had to pick one which one would it be.

8 for me.

But, as I'm sure others will tell you, there are better non-resort options if that is a possibility.

Agreed on both counts.

Already playing Pine Needles and Dormie just punched the past few days.  I had a tee time at CCNC and they just punched.  So it's pretty much between those two.

Have you played Forest Creek?

Have you played Mid-Pines?

Have you played Tobacco Road?

I assume you are playing #2.  The other resort courses are a disappointment....

Good luck,

I agree with most of the comments already here.  If you have to choose between number 7 and 8, I would recommend 7, though I suppose it all depends on what you like.  #7 is more "old school" while #8 is more modern.  Both are located "off property."  If available, and not recently punched, either Pine Needles or Mid Pines would be great choices.  I haven't played Dormie yet, but that too should be a great option.

Have fun!

Try to get on Forest Creek North depending on their aeration schedule...

Really, 1? I haven't played it but I was steered away from it by people I trust. It's good?

#1 is very short on some holes but there are some good ones out there too.  No one mentioned Southern Pines or the Mid South club but I have enjoyed both of them.  I would choose #8 over #7 because I think #7 is boring.   Either course at Forest Creek would top all of the above.  Have fun...

There are lots of answers here but not many to your question.

Between 7 or 8 I'd pick the latter and think most would agree.

If you decide to play #8 be careful. There's a hole on the back nine where some idiot left two wedges in the top of a tree  :-X (shoulda rolled it with the hybrid, and when I/he chunked the wedge, up it went. . . had four up there at one time, but got two of them back).
