Which do you prefer? Heaven or Hell?
« on: February 17, 2012, 08:53:03 AM »
Doing some research on older Top 100 lists, I stumbled across this gem.  And I wondered, which do you guys prefer.  Hell's Half Acre or Heaven's Half Acre?

Hell's Half Acre...

Heaven's Half Acre...

 :)

FYI, Heaven's Half Acre is my name for this unique flower hazard.

Funny...I think you have this one mixed up Mac. The above looks closer to hell than heaven! :)

I think I'd prefer the lake, with fountain, that Adrian's committee want to see, rather than that flowery nonsense.
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

Mr. Pearce has it right. I think the flowers are more than a bit much. Think of the time and money that could be reallocated to a project of greater value to the course and it`s members.

Mac

It has to be your Hell’s half acre as it’s the closed to natural sustainable land.

I would not eat a chocolate from any box with that flower arrangement let alone pay to play upon such a questionable design. How can any self-respecting Green Keeper get involved with that, what a waste of time effort and money – that is in golfing terms.

What happens if you end up in one of those flower bunkers, do you rake afterwards??

PS  Do not tell me that is one of our Mr Doak courses

Mac,

Is that Sentry World in Wisconsin? I believe the flowers are played as if it were a water hazard. If that's the case, I'll take hell everytime.

Mac - it's tough to do 'heaven' well.  Even for Dante.

Not that I am a fan of "hell"; I would have to say that I love the ruggedness of Hell's Half-Acre more than the flowers.

I do not feel as if I should have to hit a ball over flowers; just let them frame my approach to the 13th.   ;)

You're all sinners and deserve hell.

The flowers look just like heaven....give me more!!

I actually would like to play that hole, if for nothing else its uniqueness and the chance to flub my tee shot and get in those flowers and do some digging/gardening!!  ;)

Mac,

Kalen's Spackler-inspired answer aside,  do you think anyone will sacrifice their credibility and answer Heaven?  ;D

I was serious as a heart attack....I would love to play it at least once for the novelty of it.

And I'm not saying I wouldn't love to have a crack at Pine Valley, but I've played many fine golf courses with many fine sand features over the years.

The closest thing I've seen to that though is a few holes at the Resort in Couer D Alene.

I'd join you, at least once, for the novelty of playing it, but the question was about preference. It's more likely that someone on this site would sell their grandmother rather than admit to preferring gardens over grit.  ;D

Right you are Jim, my bad.

Gotta change my answer to Hell then..   :'(

Kalen,

Jim guessed the course, it is the world famous Flower Hole. If you click on "View Full Sized Image" in this link, you'll get a much better view of the challenge this hole presents to the golfer  ::) I think this would look great in your office.

Kalen,
I just showed my non-golfer wife the two photos and asked her which she'd prefer if she played- she chose heaven.  I still love her.  ;)

Bill,

Awesome stuff.  That would make for a terrific Booby Prize for the last place team at the 5th Major or something like that.

P.S.  I would proudly display one in my office.  Right next to my scorecard from Glendale golf course where I shot my 77!

Seems a bit overpriced at $7.33

I've had to play at golf outtings there at Sentry World a few times over the years.  I  haven't been back in more than 10 years, but if I recall, the flowers used to come right up to between the bunkers and there were places the flower beds were only a few feet off the putting surface.  It reminds me of those fields and fields full of tulips north of Seattle.  Nice in Seattle, goofy on a golf course.   Thanks to RTJjr for one more thing to give the ROW something to laugh at us cheeseheads.
No actual golf rounds were ruined or delayed, nor golf rules broken, in the taking of any photographs that may be displayed by the above forum user.
